Lol metal influenced a lotta genres too tho. I think post-punk probably has a higher standard of quality than genres influenced by metal, but still.
Having said that, most metalheads seem like dicks lol.
Pop music is one of the purest forms of music, and not being able to understand the lyrics allows one to better appreciate the melody and tone colour of the piece. Ergo, imo, kpop is one of the purest sources of musicality on offer to us.
For those who listen to music for the poetry of the lyrics, I'd say artists whose lyrics are truly beautiful are limited to a small pool of rappers and indie musicians.
Pls someone fight me, I really wanna go at some1

i don't care what influenced whom. the music itself is equally unlistenable. well i think the thing w both genres is there is a huge focus on the live experience of the music, and punk shows are just objectively more fun the spirit at the core of punk is more energizing and positive than that of metal

Korean ballad is like the worst genre imaginable. It's like music that should only be appreciated on a lyrical level, coz nothing is happening musically at all, but as non-koreans we cant even understand the lyrics.
As far as rappers with good lyrics, I reckon those whose lyrics could be read aloud like spoken word poetry are those I mean. Like childish gambino (his works I've heard anyway), lil kim (the works I've heard), and a bunch of other smaller artists I'm less familiar with. Obvi not ur standard "mageees and hos" lyrics, but those with more wordplay and manipulation of language involved.
I struggled for the right phrase, Im not sure pure is quite what I meant. Rudimentary? I mean that pop music strongly utilises melody and rhythm in a way which other music diverges from. Eg, punk having non 4/4 time signatures or having discordant melodic progressions. Idrk music so idk if those made sense, but if they didn't maybe u could roast me!!

Oh btw, beauty and rhetorical appeal are what I look for in lyrics, I couldn't care less about emotions. For me, lyrics should be poetry or bust. Maybe this influences my opinion on the matter somewhat

if you wanna talk "pure" music, whatever that means, it would probably be classical. with pop music being way on the other side of the spectrum.
lmfao at childish gambino as an example of "a small pool" of musicians with "truly beautifuly lyrics". pretty much like saying john green is one of the few authors who write truly beautiful novels.
also good lyrics are not = spoken word poetry, they gotta go with the music or else it's just.... spoken word poetry.
metalheads can be either close-minded snobs or really down to earth, friendly people. either way, classic metal stuff is dope (sabbath, dio, motörhead, pentagram) but I guess at some point in the 80s, hair metal ruined it. modern avant-garde metal and other offshoots (black metal, etc) are pretty unlistenable. I still dig some doom metal bands like Sleep, though. EDIT: soph if energetic live performance is why you prefer punk over metal, what about thrash metal? Old metallica and venom are the only tm bands I dig (also motörhead obviously, but i think they're proto-thrash)
