I mean firefly is literally fantastic, and buffy is a seminal feminist masterpiece. But everything else he's done is a bit salsa sure

Well, this is convenient; I didn't have anything new to feel bad about today.
I'm a big fan of Buffy, Firefly and Dr. Horrible, and although I've noticed what I considered minor flaws in all of those (Felicia Day's role in the latter had potential to be so much more, for example, and there were elements in Buffy that bothered me for their non-feminism, even if other elements seemed great for that same purpose), I've really not so much thought of any of them as problematic, but simply 'progressive for their time and the background of its creators'. His personal infidelity and hypocricy, while terrible, is something I could live with (after all, I enjoy a number of media produced by terrible people - Ender's Game is my go-to example of this), but Pepper's links make good points against the works themselves, which bothers me more.

Is that a sarcastic reply to what I said about Whedon, or is that just your own reaction to the article?

I hate the whole superhero franchise thing, of which The Avengers flicks are the leader, from what I understand, so I don't care about Whedon's professional nor private life. His other projects aren't my thing either (I think I only watched the Firefly pilot).
Pretty sure many prominent people in popular entertainment want to foster an image of being feminist to gain publicity, for the most part. They understand that there's a demographic of folks ready to watch and praise uninspired dreck, if it has politically correct themes.

It's a shame really, coz imo it really enhances the viewing experience for thr film/show or whatever not to be reinforcing salsaty stereotypes and whatnot. Like I'm watching house rn, which is goodish, but some of the backward-arse things that go on just really make me cringe. Wish it could just be everyone makin nice films without gross messages lol. Also I reckon a lotta ppl in the film and especially tv industry tend to be the kind to genuinely care about social justice issues, so I'm reluctant to be skeptical of all these kinda ppl, but heck yeah there are some really plainly ingenuine ppl out there

do these people put their gross ideas into their writing subconsciously or is it a thing they know they're doing??

The specific gross ideas I'm referring to would be subconsciously implanted, but I'm sure some lizard ppl tv executives out there insert subliminal messages on purpose

he's made some good things, and few bad things
this is saddening. but doesn't retroactively make his previous work bad.
he's created some great female and male characters but he never really struck me as heaps feminist.
shrug.
