I have always loved THH and almost want to just...start the season by watching those. I wanna. But I won't. But I wanna.

New review from Den of Geek! www.denofgeek.com/uk/tv/a-series-of-unfortunate-events/56332/a-series-of-unfortunate-events-season-2-spoiler-free-reviewKitana Turnbull and Lucy Punch are the two cast members I am most excited about, so this part makes me very happy: "The show is almost completely stolen by two new additions; Kitana Turnbull as the loathsome, shrill and occasionally musical Carmelita Spats, who provides one of the show’s biggest and most absurd laughs in episode two, and Lucy Punch as Olaf’s fashion obsessed girlfriend Esme Squalor, who brings one of the books’ most delightfully evil villains to highly entertaining life. The show lights up whenever either is onscreen."

This is the quote that makes me most excited:
"It’s also absolutely packed with easter eggs that will make long time Snicket fans squeal in delight, from overt references to prequel series All The Wrong Questions (please adapt that next) to flashbacks that allow us to see fan favourites and deceased characters interacting with each other. And all the big mysteries, from the true nature of VFD to the Sugar Bowl, remain gloriously intact; the show even provides a handful of new clues that will equally thrill and frustrate."

All the praise Kitana Turnbull and Lucy Punch have received has made me even more excited for season 3, when Carmelita and Esmé essentially become a duo (plus Olaf).

Oh my gosh, I hadn't even thought that far ahead. Carmelita and Esmé will have so many excellent scenes together! In the books, the pairing was interesting to me, but also rather odd - possibly because in my mind they came from two different worlds and I wasn't too invested in Carmelita. But in the show, with these actors... this all makes sense - so. much. sense. - and I can't wait for this to happen.

That sounds exactly like what I'm hoping for! It's nice to have a review written with us Snicket nerds in mind.

"The other new element is the backstory. We got a taste of it last time, but here an entire secret network begins to be exposed, involving a man with the glorious name ‘Larry Your-Waiter’, a secretary named Jacquelyn (invented for the TV show) and Jacques Snicket, brother of narrator Lemony. The latter is played, with square-jawed zest, by guest star Nathan Fillion, making this an unexpected Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog cast reunion when he shares the screen with Harris. These characters dropping in and out of the action is where the series deviates most from its source material, and helps flesh out scenes that were a little light on the page."
Larry Your-Waiter.

LARRY YOUR-WAITER !!!

I'm avoiding those videos! Too much footage for just three more days to go. But this apple-horseradish thing... wonder if they threw that in there as a wink to fans or if they are really going to deepen the backstory with that? Also I hope once this series is over, non-book fans go back and rewatch the series from the beginning just to realize how many Easter Eggs were hidden. It would be great to experience the series that way.

Hardly even a tease in these reviews regarding TCC. If any of these reviewers have seen the final two, then there is clearly an embargo in place. But even if so, I would expect tidbits of info when discussing disguises, repetition, musical numbers, or guest stars (I think one shout out to Kevin, who for all we know could be at the end of THH). No mention of how satisfying the conclusion is, or remarks about the cliffhanger ending (if preserved from the book).
For our enjoyment it’s probably best to go in more fresh, anyways. Still it’s a curious lack of info

Glad to see that the series has resolved that 'Three Semesters' plot issue.
