Posting this here, because I don't know where else to post this. Now, this may be nothing, or it might be something small, but Daniel Handler has posted on instagram a seemingly innocuous picture of his notepad (only one random item on it) with the caption "Notes from a recent Zoom call." While this wouldn't be interesting by itself, it's one comment on it that made me wonder... The director of the 2004 ASoUE adaptation, Brad Silberling, commented on this post: "@authordanielhandler You were more thorough than I was. Damn." This means Daniel Handler was on a Zoom call with Silberling. About what? Beats me. But I thought it interesting enough to post somewhere here. The post: http://instagram.com/p/CLftxq_BmKy

Well, Silberling has been doing a LOT of television lately, so maybe... Of course, the more plausible explanation is that they're just doing some kind of anniversary thing for the 2004 movie. My pipe dream would be that they're releasing an extended cut of the film, or at the very least, some of the many lengthy deleted scenes that never made it onto the DVD.

Perhaps they would like Daniel Handler's comments on the books or on the film. Something DH doesn't like to do: comment on ASOUE's story.

Oh, don’t get my hopes up... don’t get my hopes up... EDIT: Maybe this is just me, but it seems unlikely that DH would be working with Silberling on a television series... considering the differences in artistic vision that they had during the production of Snicket ‘04, I get the feeling that they wouldn’t work on a TV show together. (Of course, ATWQ is a very different beast than ASOUE, with more tonal consistency, so there’s that.)

(Of course, ATWQ is a very different beast than ASOUE, with more tonal consistency, so there’s that.) That's a fair point but nothing I ever read about their relationship during the making of the 2004 film suggests to me that they wouldn't necessarily get along as people, if not creatively. In fact, catastrophist reported that they even hung out together in New York back in 2019. I also remember an article from 2004 where Daniel Handler talks about Silberling still emailing him photos of the sets and shots of the actors even though he was off the project. And of course, Handler was hired back onto the film to re-write Jude Law's narration towards the end, and Silberling might have had something to do with that.
