Recently I've been finding myself more desperatley seeking attention and/or praise for my creative works than normal. I often get a lot of good praise/feedback at work but don't paticularly like or enjoy it, and wish I would be more appreciated for other, less important things What are other peoples experiences with this? Do you need feedback to inspire you to keep on writing/drawing/whatevering or are you fine without?

50/50. Kind comments about my drawings can really boost my confidence, but then that means the pressure to keep sharing new work on instagram can be really really stifling and kills my creativity, so I sometimes just stop sharing anything for a few weeks/months and it feels great to work on new ideas without any external pressure to please others.
Do you share any of your writing/other creative stuff with people at work?

I don't show my writing to anyone ever.
I'm always surprised when someone at work or a freelance client praises my work now.
When I was a kid I got praised for things like my grades. Now I'm an adult I mostly get praised for things like my looks or being thin, neither of which are really within my control, and are probably temporary. I have learned to reply to compliments with 'thank you.'

I used to be like Semby but not anymore. Now I learned to share more often what I write and do and not read too much into people's reaction. Took me some time but I got to enjoy my art for myself and not for whatever people think of it.

Do you share any of your writing/other creative stuff with people at work? I have found myself doing so lately, yes, because i'm so desperate for feedback on what i'm doing. I think I just like to know what people think is good or bad. I often what I write is quite divisive with people, tbh, I suppose It's not that I need praise in order to write, but that I like to know what I could improve on.

It's good to have both. Praise helps inspire me to continue writing and drawing(as well as my other hobbies like pottery), and feedback helps motivate me to improve.

sometimes a motivation to create will be to think about what praise/feedback I will get from someone when I share it with them, but then by the time I’m actually finished I don’t care about that anymore.
