Omg is this a Sondheim thread now? No Zort, this is. Please share any thoughts because idk where to start. Sunday in the Park with George is probably my favorite musical though.

YESSS
I love Sunday in the Park with George but I can't choose a favorite. Merrily we roll along hits close to home, also Company is a master piece, Pacific Overtures is *cheff's kiss*.
I'm really fond to Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd because I was a teenager when I discovered them and became a huge fan too.
Luckily I got to see a lot of productions in NYC and London and some local versions in Argentina too!

I only know a few Sondheim musicals, but I like Sweeney Todd a lot; I used to sing the songs with a friend of mine in school all the time.
I watched a documentary all about West Side Story recently and it was bizarre how little mention they made of Sondheim.

Well Sondheim only wrote the lyrics for WSS, so it's not as iconic as the rest of his work imo. I don't really like WSS much :/

Yeah i’m not a huge fan of it either tbh, though I appreciate its quality. Somehow I’ve still ended up seeing it several times lol.
But yeah I mean, the lyrics are still a big part of it, and it was like he was just a footnote in the whole thing, which just seemed a bit strange.

Sweeney Todd hit different, you’re completely right about that.

Sweeney Todd is so fun! And I will rally for Lansbury/Cariou supremacy above Lestrange/Depp every time

If you’re in NY u gotta see the revival cause it potato ing rulessss. Like every time I see that show I feel like it resonates in a new way. Haters are wrong about Katrina Lenk. Patti Lupone is the baddest 😩😩😩 Into the woods is a classic and I wish I could see the current production with Sara Bareilles as the bakers wife but alas. I feel like it weirdly gets underrated as juvenile. I’ve actually never seen Merrily 🤭. Have you heard about the version being filmed currently? And I really can’t believe it… there’s another world where we really saw Pacific Overtures together…

Love A Little Night Music and Company. I can appreciate Assassins for its effectiveness, but I tend not to listen to it -- the problem's not so much that it's dark as that it's unwaveringly so, for two hours.
(I like Sweeney Todd but I'm not sure how much of that is just that I like Angela Lansbury.)

Good taste! lol
Lansbury is my favorite part of Sweeney Todd as well. & maybe i'm crazy but I feel like they did a good job with making Assassins as light as possible, but it also kinda serves to emphasize the more potato ed up segments as well, giving you a laugh and then being like "oh yeah they're trying to murder." but ya know I won't say they all had bad reasons... lol
