Any other knitters here?I'm currently making some socks for my mother and have some upcoming projects planned including a hat for my niece, a sweater for my cousin, a blanket for my baby cousin, and a toy for my kitten.

I should really be knitting, because I am really a very old woman in a not quite that old woman's body, but I feel like knitting is one of those things where it takes a long time until you are good enough to make something that's actually nice. I would love to be able to knit jumpers and socks, but I don't think I have the patience to make it through the slightly messy looking scarf phase. I prefer sewing because I seem to be able to make more usable stuff without having much experience.

No, but the other day I read a Cortázar story where the narrator says he believes knitting is "a fat excuse to do nothing at all", lol

I'd advise finding a teacher rather than trying to knit anything yourself. That way you can have help in your early stages and someone to encourage you as you get more proficient. You will probably start out with a scarf, but soon enough you'll be knitting almost anything you can imagine. Good luck.
