Before. Because Lemony stole it and Esme thought it was Beatrice(because she summarily went to tea with Beatrice that same day) And lemony said if he could stop that tea meeting asoue would be erased.

He blames himself for her death. The whole world is against LS, I think he is also accused of murdering Beatrice, which would only compound his misery ten fold.

I doubt the world thinks he murdered Beatrice. Most of the world doesn't know who Beatrice is I don't think..

Hi everyone I have a quick question. Why does everyone want the sugar bowl? It was mentioned in TSS but I read that like 2 years ago so I forgot. I think inside it it contained a way of communicating? Anyone care to answer?

I think inside it it contained a way of communicating? Anyone care to answer? Nobody knows why the sugar bowl is so important. However, we do know that it's not the sugar bowl, it's what inside it. What's inside it seems likely to be some piece of evidence that will clear Lemony's name and incriminate Olaf in several cases of arson.

My personal theory(a fairly common one, actually) is that the sugar bowl contains either a secret note or a recording of some sort. Do you think the bowl could be a recording device?
According to evidence in TSS(Lemony's letter) Kit Snicket was the first to think of hiding messages in tea set items, which vaguely implies that there's more than one sugar bowl with a hidden message. What if the Baudelaires find the wrong sugar bowl?

Do you think the bowl could be a recording device? *snip* What if the Baudelaires find the wrong sugar bowl? An interesting idea. There were sugar bowls at Lemony and Beatrice's wedding - at least, there would have been. Yes, that would be annoying for all involved - including us. Although presumably we'd find out some other secret to make up for it. And I never really thought much of the many sugar bowl = recording device theories. I reckon there might be an intercepted letter in there from Olaf, confessing to starting the fires, or perhaps a photograph (although the U.A. index lists them as "doubtful evidence" or something like that) or something like that, but I honestly couldn't say anything for sure. And yes, I did mean to put "or something like that" twice.

It is said it contains evidence that could incriminate Olaf, and un-incriminate Lemony. I dunno.... mebe it contains a weapon of mass destruction!!!! not really... but still
