I personally don't have a problem. Yes, I use the word "retarded" when I think something is stupid. I hear kids at school say it too. I don't mean to discriminate kids w/ those kinds of problems when I say it. I like to accept who people are on the inside When I was in Guys and Dolls last year, one of our performances, one of the characters said something funny and I everyone heard this really weird laugh. I, at first, though it was someone being dumb. Like when they give that "haha! that was SO funny!...not!" laugh. Later on, I found out it was someone who was retarded who laughed. There's a girl at my school (and in the drama club) who told me this story. She was with her friend in an ice cream shop and I guess her friend was acting stupid, so she said "stop! you're so retarded!" And then this woman came over to her and said "excuse me, but I have a friend whoes son died of retardation, so couold you keep your comments to yourself?" like the woman was really annoyed w/ her. and the girl felt terrible. so I guess you should watch what you say sometimes.

I saw suffering from depression for a long time last year. I had to take that zoloft stuff for a while. That's part of the reason I left this site.

Last spring I was diagnosed with depression...It's really awful, I felt like I was on a down escalator going into a deep pit, and I desperately wanted to stay out of it, but it was so much easier to just keep on riding the escalator than to try to climb up it. Good news is, right now it's nearly impossible to tell that I was ever depressed. On occasion, though, I get a bit glum for no reason, but it never lasts very long. Mamba: About your statement about the goth movement, depression is not cool in any way. Everyone who thinks it is really needs to be set straight, and soon. I've heard some sources say that migraines are a mental disorder. They run in my family, and recently I've started having them every once in a while. So I don't know if those count. Plus I have a family history of Alzheimer's, which scares me a bit, because I like my mind too much to let it go. And, according to my dad, on his side of the family are a few people that were really and truly insane. *shrugs* Of course, some were murderers, and some were just plain batty. But oh well. It's still there.

Beatrice... I'm extremely glad that you got over your depression, it sounds absolutely horrible. I think being a little bit sadder is part of being a teenager, and some people read to far into that, and act depressed. I have friends who ought to be happy people, yet they act depressed because it's "cool". I've heard conversations where people brag about what kind of anti-depressant they're taking. It's apalling. I say you and me go on a rampage and yell in these people's faces until they come to their senses

Thanks Mamba! I fully agree with you, and the only thing I'd like to know now is when we should start!

It sort of feels like a part of you is dying until you almost want it to die becuase it is so awful, but it can't die cause its a part of you if that made any sense.

They're wrong about that, Mario. Retardation is a serious thing. They can call you "stupid", "moronic", "half-witted", "dumb" but retarded is wrong, because it is a serious mental "illness

It's called depression. although I don't think you have a real case of it. Everyone feels down and sad. I do myself.

It is perfectly, 100%, absolutely normal. It doesn't mean your retarded. It doesn't mean you have to take little pink pills. It happens to everyone. I think I'm paranoid. I'm not a tin-foil-hate-wearing, they're-watching-us-with-cameras-all-over-the-house(I do sometimes think that, but I don't go nuts about it) paranoid. We're all a little distrubed, some more than others. But we're all disturbed nonetheless
