Brilliant installment, Willis! It be a-kickin'.
Reason for Editing: Added the apostrophe to "kickin'".

That's four in favor and none who oppose. As I understand it, then, the idea is to compile 43 questions and accompany each (or some) with cryptic, Seth-esque illustrations. Does this rough template match what most people were envisioning? Where the "buzzing" serves as the question placeholder, of course, and the illustration takes place of an original creation.

Another possibility is that this series witnesses the downfall of V.F.D. As you suggested earlier, Despair, ATWQ could contain the first appearances of what we know as the "fire-starting" side of V.F.D. Lemony's relative isolation in Stain'd also helps to disconnect him slightly from what is happening on the grander scale.

I'm not entirely caught up with this thread, but it may be worth noting that Handler received some criticism for the "Alleged virgin" remark: Handler: In one of my books there’s a place mentioned called “The Cathedral of the Alleged Virgin.” I’m Jewish, and all of Christianity is inherently funny to me. So, sometimes, I lose a little perspective on making jokes about that kind of thing. It just never occurred to me that anyone, anywhere would ever think that detail was anything but funny. But, of course, I got a couple of angry letters.
One of them said, “I’m a Catholic and for me, the Virgin Mary is like my mother. I feel like you’ve just insulted my mother.” She couldn’t have said anything that would make me feel less apologetic than that. First of all, when people make fun of my mom it’s hilarious. I wanted to respond, “I would love to make fun of your mother—too bad I don’t know her, so I wouldn’t know what to peg it on.” Now, if she’d said “It was like you were making of fun of the movie Moon Over Miami,” I might have agreed—that movie’s the Holy Grail. But her mother? Anyone’s mother is such a fertile field, for God’s sake.
Sedaris: Did you write back to her?
Handler: I developed a standard response, because I did get about five letters. I just said, “‘Alleged’ just means someone has claimed she’s not a virgin. It doesn’t mean she’s not a virgin, it just means some people have ‘alleged’ she’s not.”
Sedaris: That probably didn’t save you with her, I’ll bet.
Handler: Probably not.

I would suggest starting a thread in Chaotic Creativity. Post counts aside, a new 667er would help to track current events, Snicket works, and major projects.

Don't worry about double posting if twenty-four hours have passed since your last post, Charlie.
As for your suggestion, do you mean to bring back the 667er as a regular periodical in anticipation of the Darkies? That would largely depend on volunteer interest, I imagine, but I certainly wouldn't oppose it. What did you have in mind?

Just a healthy sense of curiosity coupled with a bit of detective work. Nothing about which to concern yourselves.

I wonder about the timing of the schism in relation to WCTBATH, though. Clearly given the information in TPP, the schism would indeed have happened at this point. However, the organization itself seems strong as ever. Did Kit not imply some sort of deterioration after the divide, more severe than the apprenticeship Lemony is able to fulfill?

I see the most support for Q.R.V.'s idea, but if several people are set on doing a poem, we can poll it. Save for Sophie, are there any such supporters?

I raised the same points to Tragedy before posting this, and he made the point that we're already on the track to 1,000,000 without creating masses of spam. In that case I'm not quite sure what the point of this is either, but don't shoot the messenger.

We should use the 667 calendar to mark down which days/weeks are theme days/weeks. Great idea, Charlie. I'll make a note of that. I didn't have anything specific in mind with "Seven interesting topics," but I think having a thread quota should prove an interesting way to encourage innovation.

February 25, 2009, 667 reached 700,000 posts. Three days ago, we topped that with another 100,000. How soon can we expect to reach 900,000? More than that, and onto the topic of this report, how soon can we expect to reach 1,000,000? The goal is June 22, 2015. In practice, we are aiming to double the amount of posts in half the time. (It took 667 1,415 days to make 100,000 posts.) However, it is also worth considering that in years 2009 until late 2012, the latest major Lemony Snicket work was The End. Discussion waned, people left, and slowly the demise of Burdensome Books was mirrored in other sections. Now, however, with the arrival of a new Snicket work and an influx of animated new members, this goal is far more manageable. In fact, in the past three days, together we’ve averaged 257 posts a day. At that rate, by this time in 2015 we’ll already have made 187,610 additional posts. Certainly, these statistics are promising – but we must maintain consistency. To reach 1,000,000 posts by the target date, we should average about 6667 posts a month, or around 1,666 posts a week, which approximates to 238 posts a day. Possible implementations to ensure this goal is reached: - A set of members could commit to making 10 posts per day
- Regulate the creation of threads such that seven intriguing topics are posted per week
- Theme days/weeks (but not too often)
- Monthly reports on standings
In summary, then: We are trying to reach one million posts by 667's 13th anniversary. To do so about 238 posts must be made a day. It is manageable.

I'm not sure how closely we would be able to parallel Seth's sketches vs. his final illustrations, but I can visualize the sort of structure you're describing, and I think if people were willing to submit rough sketches, then that would work well. Other structural ideas might be to somehow incorporate Handler's 2010 allusion to The Long Goodbye, or indeed any of his references thereafter, since he's clearly fond of it. (The intro letter could be written on a crumpled yellow page, for instance.) If it were artistically possible, we could also use the endpages' octopi as borders, and state that the questions were written in real ink from Stain'd-by-the-Sea.

Depending on how many artists we have willing to contribute, we could have an illustration for every fourth question, say. This would give us a bit of a buffer, too, because not every question will lend itself to a visual. Also, we could transmit the questions as images the way we did last year, picking a suitable background for the questions that don't have accompanying illustrations.

These are great, Tryina. Your Anka is excellent, and your rendition of me is ... eerily accurate given what you had to work with.
