nothing wrong with being drunk... there was this very enticing bottle of absynth i nearly bought the other day but it was rather expensive... oh well... B, 90% of the "Absynth"/Absinthe is not worth the money they want to charge. As Absinthe is illegal in most parts, it's hard to get ahold of. The Czech Republic and Spain are the only two places that legally sell Absinthe in Europe. If you want the real stuff (that supposedly made Van Gogh cut off his own ear) cough up the extra money for a bottle containing wormwood. The color should be a foggy green. These bottles should cost no less than $30. If you're more into the buzz/souvenir than the hallucinogenic qualities, grab a cheaper electric-blue bottle. The first thing you need to know about it is this: Absinthe is a strong alcoholic beverage (60-75% alcohol) that derives its distinctive bitter taste from wormwood (an herb). (hense the ritual of sugar) What you see on the net and in most places is this concoction, the "Absynth" without the wormwood. Now, not that I'd actually know anything about this, and I'd CERTAINLY never suggest such a thing...but true wormwood absinthe can be found and ordered by reputable companies, good luck in your search. (and avoid the wormwood extract, it's an exacting science) |
