Back on topic... If any moderator or global moderator fails to perform duties for 10 days or more without a specified reason, he or she will be removed from the moderator's list. This is in accordance with 667 Dark Avenue Administrative Decree #5. Well, VSKB hasn't been on for double that, so It's a good job Rikku is a new mod! |

Well, you're probably going to gag at me mentioning her but I really like Poppy Z. Brite (I'm not sure how you like her).. and I've never tried wormwood (the most I've had was vodka and really cheap wine) but Brites' stories really kind-of make me want to try wormwood and live in New Orleans. She makes the lifestyle sound so neat, and plus it reminds me a bit of my childhood since I grew up in Houston (bayou city). *Promptly takes it back off topic* Who do you think introduced me to the concept?  (well, Lost Souls and Bram Stoker's Dracula, which both came out when I was 18. I Loooooooooooovvvvvvvveeeeeeee the Poppy. She had me with Steve and Ghost in Missing Mile, since I lived near the Tennessee/North Carolina border. I could relate to going to New Orleans, as it was so alien to where I grew up. (and I'd never discourage someone's literary choices, Mrs. Kobolos has two giant storage bins of romance novels....) I'll PM to Swans and B, but bomb, you're that impressionable part I was talking about earlier. Just say no to drugs and alcohol! Jerry, wormwood is an herb that is used in making the alcholic drink Absinthe, which was banned in most countries at the end of the 19th century. Most "absinthe" bottles are without wormwood, just like Coca Cola is made now without cocaine. |

Send it to me Kobolos. I'm a mature human being. I'm sure I can take it. Do you doubt me? Yes. You're too young. Wormwood/Swamp Foetus and Lost Souls are the two I recommend, Drawing Blood and Exquisite Corpse were not as good and I think Poppy made them so different to get out of that niche Lost souls put her in. Lazarus Heart is good to, it's a Crow novel she did and it's better than at least three of the movies they've made. As to New Orleans, I've never been. I went in 1993, but got in a car wreck in Hattisburg Miss. about 1-2 hours away from my destination. I did get to meet Anne Rice though, that was a highlight. As for the ghost, Take it from me, having a dead lover isn't as romantic as it seems. Have you ever heard "Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man" By COncrete Blonde? |
