Oooo... *taking notes fervishly* I'll have to read some of these things... what exactly is the definition of gothic literature, though?

*dreamy expression* Awesome... I've only read a few books that can do that to you... thanks so much for recommending stuff... Most of this vampiric stuff has to come from one of my best friends... and she's a goth herself. I've never totally understood the reasons behind the gothic subculture, but the books they read and a lot of the clothing is very cool...

Dracula is a fictional character who is a vampire, a vampire is just a vampire.

They are not really that creepy and scary, you have to think of them as characters, or humans, as opposed to blood-sucking machines. I think I might be drawn to the drama of it all, facing immortality, being shoved into a world of darkness, isolated from that which you once called your world... *sigh*
Sorry, got a little carried away there ;D
Dracula is the most famous vampire, after the book and the movies. But Ann Rice, for instance, writes about other vampires, which are also immortal and also suck blood to survive. Vampires, in most interpretations, aren't monsters, but undead creatures with many humanistic qualities...
And swans, I went to the Poppy Z Brite webpage, I will definitely be reading some of those books soon ;D

Vampires... reminds me of Anne Rice. Maybe because she wrote the vampire chronicles (sp) =shrug= I've been wanting to read them, but I always end up getting some other book. I live about 3 blocks away from one of Anne Rices houses. and I've been in it too. That place is just...

It has 3 sectons, the outside of the main part is white wood, and other two on the sides are red brick. It's a really old house. And there are two statues of angels on the stairs on the way the door. Inside, it's furnished in a dark kind of way you'd expect to see in a castle. But all the walls are white, and the floors are dark wood. She doesnt live in the house though. She has various statues of vampires in the house also.

It depends on who you ask. I think they where pretty cool. But I'm sure other people would find them a bit "scary".
