On AIM, someone sent me a file that they called a picture. I opened it, and it is a virus. The link to the virus was automatically sent to everyone on my buddy list, and none of them will be able to tell it is a virus. I tried to delete the file out of my folder, but it disappeared. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Please help if you can; I appreciate it a great deal. Thank you.

Why did you accept the file without asking questions to begin with?

Do you have a virus scanner?

If you do, use it to scan the AIM file. Try and delete the file manually, too. Search for it with the search command, and stuff.

I opened the file because it was from an old friend of mine. I don't exactly have a virus scanner, and I tried searching for the file...Maybe I'll try uninstalling AIM. Thanks for you help, everyone.

AIM is crap; it sends spam and stuff like that. Use Messenger. But hey, it's your computer. Please don't criticize me. This is only my opinion.
Um... Norton Anti-Virus is a good scanner.

Sorry, Orangey, I'm not too sure. Perhaps a virus scanner would do the job? I hope it fixes soon. *hug*

I had a trillion viruses that I got off Kazaa *grumbles at my stupidity*. But, try downloading a free virus scanner, and before you do, just check the reviews for it so you can be sure it isn't a virus itself. Sometimes, viruses also put themselves into the registry of your computer. Virus deterctors can't always pick that up. If you know the name of the virus, look on line for it and see if you can find out what other people did about it. If you need anymore help, I am a databank of computer virus information. Just send me a PM lol. EDIT: is this it? www.runabot.com/aimnews/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=97

I think that's the virus, Amanda. I'll try to download the patch that's on that site. Thank you very much!
EDIT: Yak, I can't find the patch! I thought it was on that site you posted, but now I can't find it...

Alright. You might want to report it to Microsoft, ot to AIM. They might be able to help you out. In the meantime, I'll see if I can find something to help.
Edit: Wow! You got hit with a good one. Microsft has nothing posted about it. There is supposedly a security update that prevents you from getting the virus, but it says nothing about getting rid of it. There are no damage reports, so that can be really good or really bad.
