Not the whole midwest, Lbeall. Otherwise I'd be off and its not snowing here nearly enough to be off yet. I'm hopeful but its stopped snowing for now. Right, the north central states then. [what I consider the Midwest, I suppose...] N. Dakota, S. Dakota, Minn, Iowa, Nebr. First 'proper snow of the year, here, We had a dash a few days ago, but it was gone by the next day. As to all of you who never seem to have snow days, I do feel for you. The only reason we are off is because it is such a 'bad' blizzard. In town, I can only see maybe a block. I remember what it is like on the plains ten miles from town, and it must be near whiteout conditions outside of town. In high school we never got days off. Maybe five? the whole four years. We had school one day when I couldn't see ten feet in front of me. I stayed home that day. My house reportedly had no power for most of the day, nor telephone. Phones are still out in some parts of the area. I hate blizzards....Now I can hear the wind starting.

I love snow days! It doesn't normally take much snow where I am for the school to close for the day. Although, most of the time it gets closed for the electricity or heating being cut off or something else that normally comes back on ten minutes after the radio gives it out. I live right near a castle and most of us just go sledging for the day on snow days. We are supposed to be getting blizzards soon though so I guess my opinion will change pretty soon.

Charlottes prooven snow dance didn't work for me. There was bad weather all around me but it didn't actually hit where I live or where I go to school.

Oh, I live in the UK and i never ever get snow. Well, I did but school wasn't closed. Oh, how I envy you lucky people out in th U.S who have a blizzard to stop you attending school.

Lucky we had a blizzard? Let me tell you something--the blizzard has snapped 8,000 electric poles in South Dakota alone. There are 10,000 MILES of electric line down. 26 counties have no or partial power. My power at home probably won't be on for four to five days, and that was before the poles snapped. Getting out of school is well and good, but this blizzard is not. Snow storms are great, whiteouts are horribly dangerous and damaging. Two of the interstates in SD were closed for about a day-they are back open, but many highways are still "no travel advised'. Also, digging a country lane out from a foot of snow is not going to be fun come Saturday when I actually get back up home. I know of people stranded all over the state. (not trying to be a downer, sorry...) So, anybody else get hit? With maybe less force?

Snow is only fun when it's manageable but enough to get you out of school. If you get a foot or less you can plow it and go do fun things on your day off, if you get more than a foot you have to shovel and plow all day long and it's no fun. I want snow though, we haven't had it since last year. It keeps raining. Last week it was in the 20s, this week it's in the 60s.

I would be happy with at least a couple of inches of snow here in Los Angeles. I would even be happy with hail.
