Yes, but at the time they had no idea who he was. They only knew who he was due to the quoting of my name during the town hall meeting. My point is that if K happened to be Mrs. Baudeliare<no!> why didn't the parents invite the family over to the mansion? The children would probably know their uncles wouldn't they? the Baudelaire parents were so outgoing. They even had Olaf come to their house...

Sure it is. That's what you do when the oppurtunity presents itself in intelligent discussion. I'm trying to prove a point---that means I have to refute the oppositional arguments.
Exactly...what...I'm...trying...to do. [twitch twitch] All I'm trying to do is present a different side of the story than the general view. We're going to know the end eventually, let's not make an overly huge deal out of it.
I'm thinking the Baudelaires probably had a good reason not to tell their kids about their supposed uncles---Remember, Lemony's on the run here, it's dangerous for him to go anywhere in public. Jaques probably has a good reason to as well. The parents kept VFD a secret for whatever reasons, there could be reasons just as good for keeping the uncles a secret.

Okay, MynamesJacques, not to "offend" you or anything, but here's something you also put in another thread.
Let me float this theory: K, who turns out to be indeed the Baud's mom, miraculously survives the fire and sets out to find her children. Knowing that the members on the opposite side of the schism are out to get her and would set her on fire if they knew she was still alive, she sneaks out and using her fine investigative and observational skills VFD so wisely instills in its members starts trailing her equally intrepid children to try and contact them/keep them safe. Once she gets to Prufrock Prep (check out websites like the Incomplete Lemony Snicket FAQ for theories about Prufrock as it relates to VFD), she sees an opening when Mr. Remora chokes on a banana. Knowing it as affiliated with VFD in some way, she takes a job as English teacher, knowing that she can stay in a pretty safe place and scope out potential VFDers. Once she's found out and fired by Nero, she "takes" two children, drops them off at headquarters, and continues her search.
Tenuous, but hey---I do what I can.

Wouldn't someone like K in VFD use a disguise to infiltrate the Squalor home? I mean, come on, why stay at a school in the country when your children are in danger in the city?

Attention all people who refuse to believe me saying that Beatrice=Mrs. Baudelaire: Go to the thread that says How Beatrice could be the mom right here in the Sardonic Series board. Read my mess of evidence and tell me what you think.

I think Daniel Handler likes to keep us up in the air with as few answers as possible. That's why we don't know for sure what VFD stands for. If he wanted us to know, he'd have written it in any of the last six books.
So it is with Beatrice. He's left us oblique clues that can be interpreted to mean she is the Baud's mom, and others that indicate she's not. But since he doesn't come right out and say who she is, we guess and then quarrel over the correctness of our guesses.
What will really be sadistic is when we get to the end of book 13 and read:
The last time I saw the only woman I've ever loved, I said to her "Beatrice, V.F.D. is ..." but she had already turned from me and walked away.

Very good information you got there!
The only thing that puts a block to this is that Lemony Snicket is always weeping about Beatrice. It would make alot of sense for him to write the story of the Baudelaires just so Beatrice's death wouldn't go unnoticed.

Megsielaur, give me an answer to this. Why would Lemony be researching the orphans for Beatrice as the duchess said if she wasn't their mom?

Isn't Lemony trying to prove he is innocent? By researching the Bauds, could he not prove that with all the evidence of what Count Olaf does to them? So maybe he's only researching the Bauds to prove his innocence and that Count Olaf really is the bad guy.

128, the duchess said in her letter that it was because of Beatrice that he was researching the orphans. Just look in chapter 2 of LSUA.

All it says is: "Beatrice, of course, is far past complaining about lost posessions--the very reason, I am certain, that you have dedicated your life to researchingthe lives of those three poor children." Check it out: The D of W mentions the Orion Observatory/Jeep thing in that same letter, no? Well, that same message was mentioned at the end of (I believe) TWW, at which time BEATRICE WAS DEAD----Lemony says it explicitly in every single book including that one. There are other errors, too, mentioned in the note by Lemony at the end of the chapter.
Esme's not stupid---K knew that that was deep enemy territory, with Esme and Olaf and any number of Olaf's henchmen. They knew the typical VFD disguises too and would see right through it. Her VFD disguise kit was probably burned up in the fire, anyway.
I'm spacing out...when was this?

From your Beatrice IS Baudmom thread:
Nope nope nope. Charles Baudelaire was a real poet in (I think) the 19th century. He wrote Les Fleurs du Mal, which was incredibly influential in its time, and I believe La Beatrice was one of the poems therein. Charles Baudelaire was who Daniel Handler named the Baudelaires for and it is for pretty sure that he will never show up in the series as a character.
Duncan’s entire knowledge of Jacques Snicket and the Snicket clan comes from old newspaper clippings, which would tell him of that great scandal and Lemony on the run but nothing of his sister. Doesn’t it make sense that the name would sound familiar if it were their mother’s maiden name?
Not necessarily. We can't know for sure; thus it's all fair game.
Most of your other stuff has already been discussed and mostly refuted right here on this thread.

Well, since Lemony's publishing the books years after following the bauds of course Beatrice would already be dead. Still, K should have tried to get closer to her children(assuming they were her children), not necessarily in the Squalor home but at least in the city somewhere, I mean they used to live in the same city if K was indeed the mother(no!) I have concluded(from bbre notes, you'll find I make quite a few references to those) that Olaf was in the Baudelaire home the day of the fire,(before he started it of course) talking to the Baudelaire parents. I know about Charles Baudelaire, in fact on our school news, this station called channel one, one of his quotes was there and I pointed out the name to my friend who got me into asoue. I just didn't know that one of his poems mentioned Beatrice, so thank you for clearing that up. There is still plenty of evidence the Beatrice=baudmom that hasn't been knocked down yet.
