I'm sure that before you saw the illustrations, you might have got a wrong impresion of what the characters looked like. I myself thought Esme had pig-tails. ^_^ Anyway, does anyone else have and wrong impressions?

I keep thinking that Flacutono is short (which he isn't, he's actually abnormally tall, but if you ask me, that's just so Helquist could squeeze him into the MM portrait). Also, I think Georgina Orwell is all slinky and femme-fatale-ey. I wish we had a good picture of her so we could really see what she looks like.

I think that Flo and Tocuna look like the lunchladies from The Simpsons. XD With white faces.

I also thought that Flacutono was short. Short, and kinda chubby. I don't know... I guess I like the Flacutono from the MM portrait better. That picture seriously messed up how I imagined most of the troupe. I despise the powder twins in that picture. Especialy with those ugly hearts painted on their faces. Ick.

I thought that Esmé was chubby... Of course she wasn't... Then I thought the Hook-handed-man was old and sleezy. I thought at the picture on the cover of TBB was Poe!!
It was Olaf... Then I thought that Jerome had black hair, although we never saw him, but still!! Flacutono was short... Does everyone think he's short?

IMO, Flacutono should only come up to Lucafont's (MM version) shoulders. Also, I think his nose should be less Olaf-like and more like the noses of the dudes from Silhouette Mirage. But that's just personal preference since I like long noses. I used to think Lucafont looked like some sort of crazy pirate punk person with spiky hair. Coincidentally, a few years ago I sent an email to Lemony Snicket asking if he could work some pictures of Lucafont/the troupe into the next book, and the next book ended up being Hostile Hospital. Score-a-mundo.

I thought the books themselves were bad because of the old time look they had, but then a friend bought one for me and, to be polite, I read it, and I learned not to judge a book by its cover! JasonKondrick

Chubby Esmé had long, black, curly hair. She was very short. She usually wore like a pink shirt, despite the fact that she had a pinstripe suit on...

I accendentally flipped to the wrong page and saw what Esme looked like but I did picture Mr.Poe wrong. Is it just me or does Klaus look shorter than he should be on the cover?

This is how I pictured some characters:
Justice Strauss: I don't know why but I imagine her with curly hair and glasses similar to Klaus'... Uncle Monty: well, I saw the cover so... Aunt Josephine: Old, white hair in a bun, w/tiny glasses, and always wearing black victorian dresses (in the memory of Ike...) Dr. Orwell: long and straight blond hair tied up... dunno why (Sorta Uma Thurman in Gattaca). w/glasses like in her sign at TWW. Wearing a white robe w/ a lot of straps and long black boots also w/ straps. And her cane of course.
From the troupe I didn't have a specific image of Flacutono and Lucafont. But I imagined the powder faced ladies to be very similar to each other, in fact twins, w/black short hair slightly wavy (old-fashioned), victorian clothes, and pale red lips, and grey-almost-hollow eyes. And the Androginous I imagined to be huge, with pig tails, wearing a cap that covers his/her eyes.

I thought Flacutono was short also, but in TMM, I picture him tall. I don't know why.
The Powdery Ladies shouldn't have hair like that, it should be in a bun, and they have pale, powdery faces with red lipstick. Indeed, I thought they were very similar looking, like siblings, but not twins. They wear long, drab dresses.

I forgot what color hair Aunt Josephine had. I imagined her kind of short and chubby with brown hair in a bun and wearing kind of an old fashioned dress.
