The pictures always refer to something in the next book. My first though was that the Fish License Plate allided to Cafe Salmonella, or how fish decorations suddenly became in. (I bet Esme put the sticker on his car.) I guess that the red herring statue fits with it too.
You know, the more I think about it the more I think that the fish thing might have been a shout-out to Alice in Wonderland.

Remember how she got tired of people reading her poetry all day (The smoking caterpillar, humpty dumpty, the wet rodents, tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum, the turtle and the griffin, the queens) And when she thought about it very close to the end of the book she realized that every poem she heard involved fish. This is the sort of thing they just can't stick in a movie.
You know, it was in Through the Looking Glass now that I think about it.

Actually, I knew about how the picture on the end of the books showed what might have happened in the following book. I'll check in the library to look up Alice. It might have something to do about it, but I thought the fish had to do mainly with the water/drowning reference.
I always thought the sound of the crickets was pretty cool. After reading the TUA, the crickets remind me of it. I haven't been listening to crickets lately though.

Don't you need permission or something? Copy-write infringement is nobody's friend!

Well, I call out "Hello, cakesniffers!". And last night, I could hear the crickets. Oh, yeah, and everytime I listen to a song (I ALWAYS look at lyrics) I hear something that reminds me of ASoUE, or LS. Don't ask me how or why, but I do.

I'm a living, female Klaus. I read voraciously, and people are always having me define words I use in everyday speech.
I've gone up to someone and asked if they were good to their mother (in the lunch line) and they just said, "yes" and walked off...
And someone said something in Reading Class, and I called them a cakesniffer- but they looked at me funny (I think they thought I was calling them "high" or something).

i swear everytime im on this site i hear a key word- the other day the hockey game was on the radio and i wasn't paying attention and the announcer said 'red herring' and i fell of my chair
theres these lemon cookies that i call Lemony Snickets.
I pass notes to my freind whos only read up to TVV and she hasnt red LSUA so i pass her all these notes saying the world is quiet here and what does 'suppertunity' mean?
my freind laura says i remind her of sunny in the way i speak- sometimes i just have to say 'gack' to make her laugh (shes only read TBB)
Thats a great idea- starting tomorrow i am SO saying things like the world is quiet here & have you been good to you mother to complete strangers. I hade an aqueous martini once, with an olive
im gonna get a martini glass and drink one rite now....

Yeah... but people have heard that from the song and everything. I guess it would be easier if you had the audio tapes... I don't have the audio tape and I remember the correct spelling and pronunciation of the word.I say it whenever something in the Snicket books don't quite connect.

Oh my gosh...
In Language Arts, we had to do a report on ten idioms, and I looked at the ten idioms that the teacher gave me (we all got different ones) and two of them were
Red Herring Memento Mori
These were randomly handed out sheets of idioms too!
A Memento mori is like a human skull, or something that the monks in mediaeval times kept in their monasteries to remind them "that they will die".

thats a strange coincedence... i think i have pepper in my eye today i said to my freind laura: well young lady, have you been good to your mother? and she said: no i havn't. And my friend tasha (who only knows what the correct reply is because i told her) said: thats not the right answer Laura: why do i need the answer? Me: to be in the secret organization Laura: meh. im sure you needed to know that. Shows how much they know. Lauras read tBB only, and tasha up to TVV, but i gave her THH. laura doesnt' know there are more! she is crazy!
