I'm sure they change their clothes. What extra clothes do they have?

Or maybe it's like anime, where their clothes change back to normal, when they are burnt/damaged. Or, maybe they're the pictures are wrong.

Last that they had any change of clothes was in TVV, but when they were running away, they seemed to have left their suitcases at Hector's house. But, in THH (I think) when Violet didn't have a ribbon, Sunny made her one out of a doctor's coat. Sunny wouldn't have bothered if Violet had three more in her pocket. And as to Klaus's bow ties, who keeps four different colors of bowties, (purple, green, red, burgundy). On the other hand, who wears bowties every day at all?

Count Olaf took her ribbon, and put it into the pocket of the outfit which they coincidentally used as their two-headed freak disguise.

When you think about it, it hasnt been that long since TVV. It is possible that the baudelaires could be wearing the same thing since then. Although they would smell pretty bad....

But, currently, they are getting a bath in the stricken stream.

Hey, also, does it occur to you that their clothes may be from Mr. Poe, who gave them ugly and scratchy clothes, not to critisize their clothing or anything, but they had cars, computers, and much technology, yet they are dressed like a couple of 1800 folk.

I don't think you can really read too much into the illustrations. I mean, I really like them, but they're clearly made to look good rather than be 100% accurate with the stories. Plus, it's possible that Brett Helquist doesn't have the entire book to read when he's making them. Something like a change of clothes happening might have been written into the book too soon before publication to change the illustration. Also, I think they strive for continuity in the illustrations. We're used to Violet's dress, so even if a change out of a hospital gown or something isn't explained in the book, they want to get the illustrations back to having her in the dress we recognize. How much do you want to bet that Violet won't be wearing the poncho in the first illustration of TGG?

I agree. The Bauds clothes are just symbolism, like cartoon characters and their recognizable clothes. The Bauds clothes are almost a trade mark, and it helps us set their character by a constant image. I dont look to much into these illustrations either, but if Lemony Snicket is trying to convince us, then maybe he is doing it the wrong way, unless the point of his stories arent for our knowledge at all...

They aren't in the itchy, ugly clothes Mrs. Poe bought them because they are still wearing the same clothes they were at the start of the book. Still, when they are always wearing the same clothes as "symbolism" to their characters, it reminds me of cartoons, where the characters wear the same thing, day in and day out.
I agree, Cyberglam. There's a pretty good chance that Violet won't appear in her poncho, nor Klaus in his inside out Carnival sweatshirt.

I write to you from within a piano. Alot seems to be going on outside, but I can't tell what it is. One of the men, an especially loud one, talks like he is constantly telling a joke. Suspicious... Anyway, I think that all these things are minor inconsistencies. You all may be going a little too overboard with the great conspiracies and everything. Someone just attempted to open the piano. Thank God it's locked. This keyboard is making too much racket and I must turn it off.

Don't stay in the piano too long. DOn't think about the clothes too much either. It's a simple fact that cartoon characters wear the same clothes much of the time.

True. (Both about the clothes and the Piano, of course unless you like being locked in Pianos, then yo should find another more sitable one.)
