Devil's Tongue knot?

Does anyone think that the Devil's tongue knot is of any significance? I do but I don't know why?

Apart from a useful knot that Violet uses? Not that I know.

But now she uses the Sumac, because she figured out that the Devil's Tongue caused them more bad luck that good.

It's not the knots fault.

Oh, and apparently she meets the pirates who invented the knot later on. Why would Violet be meeting a band of finnish female pirates? Maybe the best thing that could happen to the Baudelaires is to jump on a pirate ship outside of government knowledge and control and not return again to the city until Violet comes of age.
