OK, so this is how it goes:

"Because of evidence I've found on pages 189, 163, and 38 in LSUA, I believe that the "R" who said she was nine years old in the VFD meeting was Ramona Quimby from the books by Beverly Cleary.Ê (One of these books is also mentioned a few times in the Autobiography). ÊÊÊ
Another interesting thing, is that Ramona has an older sister named Beatrice.Ê Since Beatrice was in middle school in 1981, according to "Ramona Quimby, Age Eight"Ê Then she would be in her mid 30's now.ÊI know it's a long shot, but could this be the Beatrice that Lemony Snicket was in love " .
However I do not think this is true. If Ramona has only aged one year since this, this obviously the same is true of the Beatrice referred to here, so she could only be 13 or 14. Lemony could not have been in love with her! What we are forgetting is, THAT RAMONA'S SISTER WAS NAMED AFTER HER AUNT.
Maybe this was the Beatrice he was in love with? Anyone else read the Ramona books and picked up anything else?
As we all know, Daniel Handler is a big fan of Beverly Cleary, but as always, his allusions aren't always as straightforward as they seem to be.
Anyone got any other ideas on this?
