wow, rereading these books to fill in my commonplace book is really helping me with seeing new things! at least i hope it's new. on page 46 of tee, Esme suggests that with the money she will make from the in auction, they could move into a bigger apartment. And then Jerome says that they only moved in a few weeks ago. That is what really confused me. At first I thought that maybe they had only been married a few weeks, since Jerome bought the apartment. But that's impossible, since Jerome wanted to adopt the children from the start. How long ago was the start? probably about 6 months, at least. So they've been married longer than they've lived in 667 Dark Avenue. that's sure to smash a few theories, isn't it? Or have I missed something that makes all this useless?

Wait.
Jerome had the penthouse before they were married. Jerome and Esme had the penthouse before the fire.
They must be newly married, being Jerome moved in before her-which would be a few weeks before the Baudelaires move in.
Meh. I'm confused. Sorry If this post makes no sense.

Yes , I hope that jerome owned the apartment all along and then moved into it later. I don't want it to ruin a good theory.

In his LSUA letter Jacques tells Jerome not to marry Esme and says that it's for the same reason he begged Jerome to buy the penthouse, so yes he had the penthouse before he married he just moved into it later.

That reason might be to protect the Erzatz elevator.
Or even better, the floor above the penthouse.

In LSUA, I can't remember the page. There's a picture with writing saying something like, "They never discovered there was a floor above the penthouse"

It was near the end, with the pictures and it was "Turns out that there was a floor above the penthouse"
So, where did Jerome live before he moved into 667? A few weeks could be like 12 weeks. Thats about 3 months, enough time for the mansion to burn down. Actually, no it's not. TAA would throw that off, scince they were there for quite a while.
And Jerome must have lived somewhere close to Dark avenue, since he used to go to the Veritable French Diner everyday. He probably didn't live in 667 because it would take too long to go up and down the stairs for breakfast.
