Hmm, I had an idea the other day, it might not make much sence, but hear me out. Ok, I think that Beatrice is Tocuna or Flo. Because the powder-twins had to take new identities [anagrams of Olaf's name], that would explain the fact that Lemony thinks of her as "dead". Like, she actually became Tocuna or Flo, and the real Beatrice is dead inside her.
There's more... I think that both powder twins were in VFD, and when the schism took place, one went to Olaf's side, and the other went to Lemony's. Lemony fell in love with her, but she joined her sister on Olaf's side. That is why he despises Count Olaf... maybe he wasn't following [stalking? lol...] the Baudelaires, but instead knew that where they went, Olaf and his troupe would show up.
I don't know... weird theory, I know. But it just sorta came to me yesterday. Seems logical in my twisted mind, haha.
