This is also a sort of where ASOUE takes place disscussion. In America there are no monarchs but you can still have the right to call yourself a count if.... - You're christian and the pope makes you a count WHY NOT? well,I don't think olaf was christian and any way you had to be like a hero to become a count - It's hereiditary (in the sense you have relatives in europe Perhaps a duchess mother/cousin/aunt/whatever) THIS IS WHY OLAF IS A COUNT! I think he's interelated with R/Duchess of winipeg. A footnote- Olaf is not on the family tree (at least not under O) Your "Count" name is your second name so he's actually T. Olaf (we learned T from the v.f.d transcript in UA) Another Footnote- I invented a V.F.D smiley LOOK: <o>

His first name is Olaf, I'm pretty sure. His fake name is Omar, which he is using as a first name. And everyone else calls him olaf, even his girlfriend.

But your second name is your "Count" name E.G fred Bloggs= Count Bloggs so olf is his second name and "T" is his first which is on the family tree

Still...he's known as O in V.F.D. Ah, I guess it would explain T. But why would his first name as a disguise be Omar? Wouldn't he make it begin with T?

Where did you hear about Omar? He could be Olaf Olaf like Montgomery Montgomery

If it is Olaf Olaf then this whole thread is irrevelent. Omar-what people call him after he "was murdered" In the newspaper anyway. And Esme calls him Olaf. Would you call your partner by their surname. "Oh hey, Butcher"

It would be just like Count Olaf to only call himself a count rather than actually have the title, and to call himself Count Olaf rather than Olaf, Count of Saskatoon.

Somewhere in LSUA there was a letter from Jacques to Jerome stating something like " we pretend to have occupations like a detective, a ship's captain, a dutchess, or a theater critic." The point being that the Dutchess of Winnipeg is not a real one, but pretending to be one.
Also, generally it appears that none of the siblings / parents have the same occupation (hence the different skills the Baude's and the Quags have and were trained on. For example, Lemony, Jacques and K all have different jobs. So do Mr Poe and Eleanora. )
So it would be reasonable to assume that Olaf is (1.) not related to R (at least not sibling or parent/child) and (2.) is not a real Count, but pretending to be one as a VFD occupation.
Any thoughts?

I think his first name is Carl. Look at the first page, of the thirteenth chapter, in TVV... On one of the pages floating around, it looks like the words ____ Olaf, and the ____ looks like C-a-r-l...

Omar isn't his first name. He is Count Olaf, and the "Daily Punctilio" reported him as Count Omar, not Omar Olaf. And if he was Olaf Olaf, Mr. Poe would have told the Baudelaires not to make fun of his name like he did with Uncle Monty. I agree with the Carl theory, because there is nothing else to agree with.

hold on there cocheze! Mr. Poe wouldnt have told the Bauds to not make fun of his name because Count Olaf was despicable... wait... I see where your coming from... in TBB maybe the reason Mr. Poe didnt tell the Bauds this is because he DIDNT KNOW because Count Olaf is only ever called Count Olaf
