I was recently listening to Theodore Bikel's interpretations of Yiddish folk music, and I stumbled upon a musical passage that really reminded me of Thomas Newman's score for the ASoUE movie.
The moment at 0:55 (reappearing from 1:50 onwards).
And here at 1:50.
Considering the Baudelaires are supposed to be Jewish, maybe this is not a coincidence. Either way, I think it's a beautiful parallel, because the Yiddish song is about children growing older.

Visited a cemetery in a nearby town and saw a tombstone with "Memento Mori" carved across the top (it was definitely a regular-sized tombstone and not an unusually tiny school building).

My friend who hasn’t read ASOUE made a joke about arson in class, before immediately proceeding to show me a picture of an eye she drew. She couldn’t understand why I was scared.

My boyfriend attempted to teach me how to skip rocks into the ocean. He is really good. I, on the other hand, couldn't do it. All my rocks just plopped 😂

Read about a case from like 1940 which never got solved...someone received a mysterious phone call at night, soon thier house burned down and 5 children disappeared. The fire department didn't show up
And also they heard a strange noise outside their house before the fire
And the kids were spotted in the city with a man and a woman

That's the closest thing I can think of, from your description. Very intriguing and odd case. And very apt for this thread. |
