Honestly I can’t quite remember — I spend a lot of time looking for any publishing opportunities at all because it’s so hard to get anywhere when you’re starting out. I find a lot via an Instagram account called artopencalls, which shares, as its name suggests, open calls for all sorts of art (including writing), for magazines, exhibitions, even residencies, so I suspect it was through them. |

Last night I got to stop a fire in a house with green wooden doors
(the place was the foundation I work for, and it almost burns to ashes. Luckily we were able to extinguish it before it got too bad so I'm well and alive and my immense fortune is safe)

Last night I got to stop a fire in a house with green wooden doors (the place was the foundation I work for, and it almost burns to ashes. Luckily we were able to extinguish it before it got too bad so I'm well and alive and my immense fortune is safe) Did you have any kind of firefighting training, Zortegus? I say this because I had some training at the company I work for, and I served as a volunteer brigade for about 6 years. In 6 years I only fought a big fire, a big ammonia leak, and investigate the origin of a strange gas smell in a nearby community. (I always hoped for a forest fire, but I never managed to fight one). |

At the book launch I made a thread about in Weary Writer, there was a man with a young girl in front of me in the queue to get books signed. Daniel Handler asked about the man’s relation to the girl, to which he confidently replied that he was her chaperone. Naturally my mind turned to ATWQ, and my eyes turned to their ankles, which were unfortunately covered.

Someone left a bag full of thrash under one of those super furnace-ovens for pizzas. We turned it on, left for a minute and the heat lit the thrash and it started spreading over some papers and boxes nearby until it reached an old broken refrigerator, it melted and nearly exploded when the gas in it caught the fire. We were like 8 people so everyone started getting water and we got to stop it before it caught anything important or, even worse, the wooden roof/doors that lead to the library.
