“Good morning Olaf,” Esme said, poring tea. They were in 667 dark avenue. Esme was up, in her pinstripe dressing gown, and pink fluffy slippers. She had a kettle with letters stapled over it. She pored a cup with eyes full of tea and passed it to Olaf who was lying in bed.
“Morning Esme,” he replied, gulping down the tea.
“Today’s the day,” Esme said. There was a stomping down the hallway and the door burst open. Carmelita was standing in her long white nighty-her hair messy.
“It’s Christmas!” she screamed happily,” What did you get me?” Esme had remembered that Carmelita had been looking forward to it, so she had managed to get her a few things from the In Boutique. Esme got the wrapped presents from the cupboard and Carmelita opened them hurriedly. A pinstripe suit, a box of fancy doilies and a bag of money. Carmelita liked them all-maybe except from the doilies and tried on her suit, looking at the money in the bag.
Meanwhile, Esme and Olaf were chatting.
“Christmas,” Olaf groaned,” I hate Christmas.”
“Christmas is out,” Esme agreed,” But I don’t want to get Carmelita angry.”
“Very well,” Olaf said,” But today still sucks.”
“No it doesn’t,” Esme replied, with a huge smile,” Don’t you remember?” Today’s the day that we burn that stupid Hotel Denouement.” Olaf smiled.
“That’s right,” he said,” Those volunteers will pay.”
“We’ll kill them,” Esme said,” I hate Christmas, but today’s gonna be the best day ever.” Olaf nodded and got up from bed.
“We’d better get ready,” he said,” We have to look good if we’re gonna burn things.”
“I know the perfect ‘in’ clothing for arson,” Esme replied and walked off to her clothes room.

Klaus crawls along. He is cold, he is wet. Violet and Sunny are behind him, he can here their gasps for breath. They are nearing the hotel, they think. He arrives at a huge stone building, with a huge metal door, and manages to get up. Violet and Sunny follow suit and they all walk to the door. Then Violet knocks with a tight fist. No one replies for a long time, but the door creaks open.
“Shall we go in?” Klaus asks. Then a person comes into view. The children recognize them, but they thought they were dead.

Esme walked out from the room, dressed in a pinstripe suit.
“I thought you had the perfect clothing for arson,” Olaf said.
“This is,” Esme replied,” A pinstripe suit is in for anything!” Carmelita came in with her suit on. Olaf was ready too, with his normal dirty clothes on.
“Are we ready now?” Carmelita asked, and Esme nodded happily.
“Let’s go,” she said and they walked to the door. They began to make their way down the stairs. Olaf and Esme had linked arms, Carmelita skipping beside them.
“Are you looking forward to it?” Olaf asked Carmelita.
“Getting revenge on those bratty orphans?” Carmelita questioned,” You bet.”
“Not just the bratty orphans,” Esme replied,” All the volunteers who have caused me and Olaf pain.”
“More bratty people!” Carmelita said,” They’ll get what they deserve. They soon reached the bottom and walked out of the door. Their automobile was only a short walk along the sidewalk and soon they were all ready to set off. Olaf sat in the drivers seat, Esme beside him and Carmelita in the back. Olaf started the engine and they began making their way down the street.
“Look at all the Christmas decorations,” Esme snarled,” Everyone’s all jolly about Christmas.”
“I know another bad thing about Christmas,” Olaf said.
“What?” Esme asked.
“Snow,” Olaf replied, and almost as soon as he said that, they hit a huge pile of snow and their car went spinning out of control. They were past the normal highway, and the car when flying off the road, off a hill. They landed against a tree, snow covering the car shut. Olaf moved himself up and groaned.
“Everyone alright?” he said, and looked. Carmelita was in the same shocked state as him, with a few cuts. Then they looked at Esme, who had her head in the glass. She had blood dripping from her and was unconscious.
“Esme?” Olaf said,” Esme? Esme!” She didn’t reply. Carmelita gasped and then checked her chest.
“She’s breathing,” the girl replied,” She’s alive.” Olaf sighed with relief.
“Esme?” he continued to say, but Esme didn’t reply.
