Up until Book the 5th, the series followed a formula and it was beginning to get boring: a new guardian, Olaf in disguise causes trouble, and the Baudelaires save themselves at the last minute. TAA began to break that formula by introducing friends the Baudelaire's own age. It also was the first mention of the V.F.D.. I think it was inferior to every book that came after it, but TAA was a good step in the right direction for the series. There had to be a transition book, and this was it. Which is why it wasn't that good, but it was alright. My personal favorite is TEE, probably because it was the first one I read...

I liked TAA; it made me a bit happier because the Baudelaires finally had someone their age they could relate to. As Snicket says, "Let us enjoy this brief moment of comfort, as the Baudelaires enjoyed it in the company of the Quagmire triplets and, in Sunny's case, an armrest."
Ahh. . . . I love his writing.

I like TAA, although it's not my favorite. Come to think of it, I dont have a favorite.... anyways, I like the fact that in TAA it started to get more mysterious (V.F.D. etc., etc.)

Hi, I am new to the site and also relatively new to the series. I am taking part in the investigation at TheNamelessNovel.com , and there is a question that I need an answer to. See, I shop at Half Price Books, which is a chain of new and used bookstores, and my shop just can't get in AA. I need to know the name of the only volume of poetry that Charles Baudelaire wrote. If any of you can help me I would be greatful

TAA was one of the best books but probably not the very best. It did, after all, introduce some of the, now, most interesting things in the whole series. I personally liked TSS better....

Well, of course it would. The name of the school is Prufrock Prepartory School.

I think what myflamehead11 means, Scotty, is that the starting picture in TAA before Chapter One doesn't match the description of the same place.
