Lemony states, I think Lemony said it, in the erzats elevator about going to a dinner or party of 12 but only 11 showed up because...the 12th invitee had...something going on...I don't remember clearly....If you know what I mean...Is this a possible clue? I dunno if this has been previously questioned on these boards.

I don't recall that in any of the books. Perhaps it slipped my mind. If someone could find the text, we would be grateful. Also, it probably is a useless little story, like, the restaurant I am in is slowly filling with water, or a hammock, like a coffin, cinema or shark tank is not a pleasant place to be in and the baudelaires....

I lent my copy of TEE to my friend, but doesn't Esme say 'I was having lunch with twelve millionaires this morning, and eleven of them definatley said they were coming to the in auction. The twelfth had...'
But like you, I can't remember his bussiness. Oh, and I doubt it's a clue of any sort.

Yes, it was Esme who had lunch with the millionaires, of whom all but one were coming to the auction. If memory serves, the twelvth millionaire had to go to a birthday party on the day of the auction.
Also, we have the unlucky number 13 at the luncheon. However, I doubt there's an actual clue lurking in this.

Lemony Snicket loves the #12. I'm scared. He loves the # 13 more, hence 13 chapters, 13 books, and 13 pages of the Snicket File.

I keep noticing that almost every time there's a largish group of people present/mentioned, they number thirteen. Also, it is simply astonishing how many of the people involved with the series (actual people, ie Daniel Handler and Brett Helquist and Meredith Heuer and Alison Donalty...) have thirteen letters in their name.
I think the absent millionaire was had going to a birthday party to demonstrate how young he or she was.

13 is indeed a very unfotunate number I agree. 13 is the most unfortunate number I can think of. It must be lucky to Mr. Snicket
