I am not very sure about this but it may take place in london because at the letter to the edditor in bb it says "from the Londo branch of the herpetilogical socioty" Though this may not nessacerily mean it takes place in london.

Ah...but London isn't in Europe, as far as the British like to think. They are in splendid isolation.
On the other hand, I doubt the series takes place anywhere that can be found on the map.

On the other hand, I doubt the series takes place anywhere that can be found on the map. This is true. He may mention places that can be found on a map, like Peru, London, Stockholm, etc., but the places these things take place aren't going to be found on a map. Well, maybe, but I won't be looking through every street map in existence. Well, it does appear a map, if you count the one in the UA.

At some point in book 3 he talks about the motto of the postal service, but I'm not sure if that can be taken as a clue or just Snicketian randomness.

It's Snicketian randomness. The whole series is Snicketian randomness. That's why they're so entertaining.

in tbb if you look at the last picture, on the wall of the theater you can see a poster selling lollies for 5 cents. theoreticly, it would take place in america in the early twentieth century approx 1906. my brother came up with this
