I have many reason for thinking this! The Brighton West Pier which was burnt down (ARSON!), the starlings, showing resemblance to the crows on the nevermore tree, the Hostile Hospital apparent wreck in Romney Salt Flats.....
NB Brighton is part of the City Of Brighton and Hove, which is inbetween West Sussex and East Sussex, and Romney Salt Flats are in East Sussex.
PS I live in Burgess Hill, which is 15 mins north of Brighton.

No. There is no Tedia, Ophelia, Village Of Fowl Devotees, Dark Avenue, hinterlands, or Mortmain Mountains in England.

But Mortmain Mountains - Welsh Pennnines, Hinterlands - Snowdonia, Brighton + Hove as the City, Tedia + Ophelia + V.F.D could be surrounding places such as Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Uckfield........
P.S They did travel a long way in the van to reach the Carnivorous Carnival...........

There are no large mountain ranges in England, especially not in Brighton.

Yes. Did the automobile go overseas then? It took a boat, a detail which Snicket omitted.

Oh dear... Are you very very sure it had to go across water? Snicket isn't always accurate.

No. Sorry about that. Got confused about what was said. Why would Snicket omit a fact like that?
And maybe Snicket isn't always right. I know he didn't put it went over water, but he didn't put it didn't.

Exactly. They'd been driving for hours, so therefore travelling for a long way....unless it says they got lost......does it?

They didn't get lost, and if they did Snicket would have noted it. I don't think the series takes place in England, as that island has no large large deserts--the setting of TVV. Although the nameless city reminds me of London, that doesn't really prove anything.
