since there are a number of mf's fans here, i thought i go ahead and post this.
Five long years after the release of their brilliant three-disc box, 69 Love Songs, indie pop giants The Magnetic Fields have finally completed work on their new record. Simply titled i, the record is slated for a May 4th release via Nonesuch Records, and will be rooted in a loose theme, with all song titles starting with the titular letter. The cast of musicians this time out suggests a similar sound to that of 69 Love Songs, rather than a return to the more synth-oriented tracks of the band's early years, featuring banjo/guitarist John Woo, cellist Sam Davol, returning champion Claudia Gonson on piano and percussion, and of course, frontman Stephin Merritt on vocals (and undoubtedly other instruments as well). Tracklist:
01 I Die
02 I Don't Believe You
03 I Don't Really Love You Anymore
04 I Looked All Over Town
05 I Thought You Were My Boyfriend
06 I Was Born
07 I Wish I Had an Evil Twin
08 If There's Such a Thing as Love
09 I'm Tongue-Tied
10 In an Operetta
11 Infinitely Late at Night
12 Irma
13 Is This What They Used to Call Love
14 It's Only Time
The 'Fields have recently confirmed a handful of U.S. tour dates for this Spring to support the new record, with more to be announced (including appearances in the West Coast and UK) as the album's release draws closer. Additionally, Stephin Merritt will appear in-studio on NPR with They Might Be Giants' John Flansburgh on April 9th at 6:00pm EST, although we encourage you to check your local listings, as programming can vary from station to station. Currently scheduled dates:
04-09 NPR Radio Performance
04-22 New York, NY - NYU
04-26 Philadelphia, PA - Irvine Auditorium
05-22 Boston, MA - Berklee Performance Center
06-24 Minneapolis, MN - Pantages Theater
06-25 Chicago, IL - Old Town School of Folk Music
06-26 Chicago, IL - Old Town School of Folk Music
06-27 Chicago, IL - Old Town School of Folk Music
