I found an article (in spanish) that said that Cartoon Network decided to ban Speedy Gonzalez (The mexican mouse from Guadalajara, Mex. that is very fast). They said that they did it to avoid any reaction from hispanic groups that may accuse the channel for being racist and give an inappropiate stereotype of mexicans. The article goes on explaining how even when the US claim to be a free country, often people have to be very careful with their opinions and actions because they might be misinterpreted and lead to legal problems. However, in this article the author said that most of the hispanic groups that were expected to sue TimeWarner, instead collected sign and made a petition to please put Speedy back on TV. That is because, even when it showed a 'bad' stereotype of mexicans and Mexico, in the end Speedy was the hero, always used to win and was very clever and smart, had a great sense of humor, was nicer than Mickey Mouse, was very 'lucky' w/the ladies, and above all he was the fastest mouse in Mexico maybe even the best athlete in Mexico.
In my opinion I think that they shouldn't remove Speedy's cartoons from TV. I really like them and I don't think they're demeaning to mexicans.

Because everyone knows that implying that Mexicans are able to win over their enemies with agility and cunning is racist. DUH.
But seriously, it's a stupid decision. But personally, I was more of a Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck (not slash and not furry) fan myself.

A while back, shortly after the cartoons were first coming out, they wanted to ban Bugs Bunny because he was a crossdresser.

THey thought it was racist because Speedy has dark skin, is short and wears a big 'somrero' (hat). But anyways that's like the averagw mexican, except the hat.

As in, whenever he crossdressed to fool whoever was after him in that particular episode (i.e. Elmer Fudd). Not just crossdressing for no apparent reason.

Gotcha.
The "pretty stupid idea" comment was meant about the banning, by the way... not about the crossdressing.
