i have a question. I viewed the movie trailer for ASOUE and i noticed that it shows count olaf as himself, and as captain sham, but who is he supposed to be when he has glasses and a moustache. he seems to be mostly bald, but Stefano didnt have a moustache, or glasses, just a beard. And who is he supposed to be wen he has black parted hair, and he pulls out the sword?

Bald Moustache Guy = Stephano
Sword Parted-Hair Guy = Someone in the Marvelous Marriage.

hmmm...this makes me feel very unsettled. If they cant even keep the character descriptions right, imagine wut they'll do tot he story, they'll completely butcher it....I hope to god this doesnt happen.

What is that magnifying glass thing that Klaus is standing by in the trailer? 2. Why is Olaf on the train tracks? Why does it look like he is killed? 3. Is that Lemony Snicket in the clocktower? What is he doing?

The magnifying glass may have played some part in starting the fire that started it all.
After close examination of the trailer, I determined that the man in the clock tower is probably Lemony. He's wearing a coat and hat, and seems to be taking some sort of book or file from the pendulum-weight thingy.
As for Olaf's car on the tracks, I'm really confused.

ok, since the trialor is kinda new, my insider hasnt gotten back to me, it usually takes aaround like 5 days for an answer. cause he has to ok it with the producers and whatnot.
I had asked him like the first day the trailor came out about the train tracks and he said that its not important to the story. I think it happens towards the end.

Actually, as much as I wish I could, I cannot answer those questions. My speculation for Olaf on the traintracks, however, is that this might be one of Lemony's fantasies, you know, like as he explains in the books. Something like:
Oh, how it would be wonderful for Olaf to get run over by a train, but such a thing never happened, and the Baudelaire Orphans had to deal with him for a long time
something like that. I asked my insider, and he refused to tell me. He said he didnt wanna spoil that part. But, I do know the answers to the other questions and I wish not to answer. dont wanna spoil it. ^_^
I will tell you this, though, Captain Sham667: In your words, they "butchered" teh story. But when I say butchered, I mean cut up and changed to make better than as it was rather boringly explained in teh first three books(while I found the books great, what they have for us is really exciting). But they did not ruin the story, trust me! ^_^

The magnifying glass may have played some part in starting the fire that started it all. No, I think it's Zombies in the Snow, the movie they saw in "The Reptile Room". Maybe they cinema has something to do with VFD, with the eye and all... At the end of the trailer, I think that might be when they're about to crash into Mr. Poe's car on the way to the Prospero. Still the train-tracks have muddled my mind. I think it could be a LS fantasy, but I suppose we'll just have to wait...

yah, i no, i wish my insider would tell me about the train tracks, but he wouldnt! i dont think its a real part of the movie. A fantasy would be my best guess also.

Hmm. Actually I don't think the car is in TRR. I think it's Count Olad and the Bs going into town? I think this because he says: Now we're family (as in only just) AND he's in no dusguise: e.g: "And then the unthinkable happened...".
I don't think the car crash scene is in the movie AT ALL. I think it's just to make the trailer more exciting.

Oh, its in the movie. Lots of people have been speculating that its not, but it is. I just dont know exactly what it is yet.
Also, I can agree what AndrewIsLemony is saying:
the scene with Olaf and the Baudelaires is definately not the scene where they crash into Mr. Poe, but Im not sure what it is. If it were them going to the harbor to leave for Peru, Olaf would most definately be in disguise.

Maybe that magnifying glass thingy was the lighthouse in TWW.

Hmm...might be, but I dont imagine so. Klaus never entered teh lighthouse at all. I have a strange hankering it has to do with Olaf's tower (because of the mess and the hole in the wall) , maybe something he used to burn down the mansion with? Not sure, jsut a guess, though.
