Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events:
Pros: -More popular actors -American movie -Comes out in holidays -American movie -Uses reverse psycology
Cons: -Book series not as popular
Harry Potter:
Pros: -More popular book series
Cons: -British movie -Not many popular actors
Which will sell better? I honestly think Harry Potter will, even though I want Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events to be a better seller.

ASOUE will give HP a run for its money (literally) but HP is more world known.

Well, I don't know what to think...
Harry Potter is a best-seller movie because it started as a best-seller book/series. Then w/the 1st movie it attracted more audience, some of them read the books, and expected the 2nd movie, that attracted others, etc... a neverending cycle.
Now, ASOUE has Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep. It's for sure that Carrey will attract a lot of people, and Streep will make the film somewhat important for movie critics. I personally hope that after the movie, more people become interested in ASOUe the books.

I think that ASoUE won't be as big of a hit as HP at first--the books don't sell quite as hotcakeishly well--but the movie will be at least as successful. Jim Carrey alone will lure in viewers like some metaphor that I can't think of at the moment. Like Dark, I hope that the popular films will spur interest in the books.

ASOUE's style is better. It entertains you and you actually learn things.
I hope a population of the HP fans will convert to ASOUE. But it's probably too much to ask for.

No, I don't think it will, sadly
But getting a large chunk of HP fans to ASOUE isn't really that hard. During the wait for the next book, they'll all grab onto any books they can. That's what I did

That's what happened to me. During the long wait for Harry Potter book 5, I discovered Lemony's works and decided "Hey, I like this. Better than Harry Potter, even." Since the books are being billed as "the next Harry Potter" and "Harry Potter fans will like these", plenty of HP fans will discover them.

Yes, but it would be better if they were in the same publishing house as HP... So... It would have to both be Scholastic or HarperCollins in America... And Bloomsbury for Britain I suppose... I don't exactly know the publishing house for the British ASOUE

I think the British publisher is called Egmont Books. Egmont is a cool word.

Yeah, same here. During my time of waiting for The Grim Grotto to come out, I encountered lots of awesome book series, although they weren't as good as A Series of Unfortunate Events, like Guardians of Ga'Hoole, and the Pure Dead Trilogy.

Im not gonna lie to you. While there is a possibility it will sell better than Harry Potter in the box office, I dont count on it. Im not trying to be a dampener, but even with the large budget and awesome slew of professional actors and a great comedic plot and character designs, I honestly think Harry Potter will be able to beat it one way or another. but you never know, I guess. Harry Potter is kinda loosing its touch on the Americans as far as Ive noticed. I like both series, and I enjoy Lemony Snicket better, but I think Lemony will come out in a close and respectful second (since other books will be made into movies real soon).

You've got a point there. I think that Lemony Snicket is so much better but HP has some sort of thing that makes people like wannbees. At the movie theater for book one, it was this never ending line of freaks in line to see HP. It became sick when I saw two old (No offence to the old) people racing to get in line.

Again, I wont lie. Harry Potter has a lot more going on than ASoUE. Its just that ASoUE carrys it in a more enjoyable way. To me, the Lemony Snicket series is more captavating, in the sense that it can hold you on to keep watching it without getting bored of what your seeing. But HP is more seriously invloved, if not boring. I still like HP, but like I said, I enjoy LS more because its more fun, and I dont have to fear that the book will be nearly 1000 pages (although, if Handler decided to make a LS book that long, it would be like a field day for me lol).
