Fall Movie Preview 2004 10 Hot Movies #5 - Lemony Snicket's A Series Of Unfortunate Events [ RELEASE DATE Dec. 17 WHY WE CAN'T WAIT A grinchy Jim Carrey seems like the perfect choice to channel the black-comic, ''Addams Family''-ish tone of the kiddie-gothic Lemony Snicket novels. THE PREMISE The orphaned Baudelaire children, including Klaus (Liam Aiken, center), baby Sunny, and Violet (Emily Browning, right), must survive a series of dotty adult caretakers, as well as the wicked Count Olaf (Carrey, left), who's after their inheritance. SOURCE The first three novels by Lemony Snicket, a.k.a. Daniel Handler, in the projected 13-book series THE BACK STORY Carrey sounds as if he's got this kid-loathing villain thing down pat. ''It was easy for me to get a real hate on for these kids,'' he says of his costars. ''If you're not giving 'em an M&M or somethin', they're impossible.'' BURNING QUESTION Is this the next ''Harry Potter'' franchise? COME FOR Carrey's cunning count STAY FOR Meryl Streep, as jittery Aunt Josephine That was just adding onto what Fowl Devotee posted. BTW I'm confused... Now a motor boat? First a car... then a segway... then a boat... I was thinking it was the boat for the Lachrymose scene, but Olaf isn't dressed as Sham...

It looks to me like an old-fashioned car, but the background is so foggy(and pretty) that it's hard to get clues from the setting. They could be at the edge of the lake. Note how the clouds above and to the right ofOlaf's head form a sort of squashed eye.

It looks to me like an old-fashioned car... That's probably Lachymose Lake because that looks like an old wooden motor boat, such as this one:

BTW I'm confused... Now a motor boat? First a car... then a segway... then a boat... I was thinking it was the boat for the Lachrymose scene, but Olaf isn't dressed as Sham... I was thinking it could just be a posed picture or somehow Olaf is wearing his regular clothes(?).

What's with all these weird pictures? If it's an old boat it doesn't even look like Klaus is entirely INSIDE the boat but floating on the outside edge. Maybe these photos have been tinkered with, eh? Possibly, the, er, vechicle is currently on land and Klaus is standing behind it, possibly next to an open door. The photos are getting weird.

Here's my understanding of what may be occuring during the film. Perhaps, when the orphans are alone with Olaf or with a guardian who finally understands who Capt. Sham or Stephano really are, Olaf then is seen in his regular clothes and not in his disguises. Eg: During the end of the long trailer in the car when Olaf is talking about being 'the ultimate dad' he is in his regular clothes even though according to the book he is about to collide with Mr Poe who sees only Stephano and doesn't believe the kids about who Olaf is. Hope this makes sense.

I think they're fake. Sunny's life jacket doesn't look like she's wearing it.

They are in a motor boat. I forget the year model but it is very old. Klause though is standing inside of it and not outside. It is hard to tell but he is inside. This may be before they went in and touched everything up. Ilike it.

I think they're fake. Sunny's life jacket doesn't look like she's wearing it. Idiot? Entertainment Weekly wouldn't go out of their way to photoshop a pretty picture of a movie which 3/4 of the world has never heard of, and put it in their magazine.

I think they're fake. Sunny's life jacket doesn't look like she's wearing it. Wow...are we all so jaded that any photo that can't immediately be placed within context of the books is considered fake? We know that there are numerous changes in the film...this could just be one of them. Why on EARTH would anyone bother faking these photos? Do that many people care?
