What does it mean to die when you can live until the end of the world?

Is it not true that Counts were part of the social class system in modern day and Monarchic day? And obviously the book series does not take place in England or anywhere near England.
So what makes him a Count? I suppose there is a possibility that wherever they are living they could have the same social class system as in England.
Maybe this entire post is a waste of bandwidth, and my time (which I do indeed like to spend ranting).
So, my question I suppose, which may in the end be rehtorical is: Was the title Count given to Count Olaf, or did he accept a title on his own accord.

What makes someone the King of Arizona or the Duchess of Winnipeg? Honestly or dishonestly, they've acquired a title through inheritance, merit, or deceit. I prefer to think came into into his title through the last named method.

DP, a countess becomes a countess by marrying a count. She isn't a female version of a count, just his partner...

Oh, sorry for being so stupid! Then dress up as Shirley, marrying a count, become a countess, then kill the count and take his place.

if he got married to a count, and killed him and took his place, wouldn't that mean that he met the family? if he met the family and killed the real count, wouldn't he be the first suspect? or, wouldn't they suspect something funny?they would held him for questioning.well, then he is olaf who gets away with Everything.just a thought.never mind my stupid remark.

Yes, I was just about to say what CactusWren did. My grandad always randomly asks questions to me to break silence (lol) And "What is the husband of a countess" was one of them.

Didn't he kill an elderly widow by pushing her off a cliff or something? Maybe he married her to get the title of Count, then killed her. It's in LSUA, I'll try to find it.

Wasn't it in TAA, one of the things Duncan found when reasearching him? He was in Thailand too, He murdered someone, and escaped from jail in ten minutes.
