I just thought of this when discussing Monty Python with friends ("A wa-ffer thin mint?") and, well, the name gives it away.
Monty = Name of Uncle who the Baudelaire's stayed with. Python = Type of reptile, snake.
LOOK! It's there!
Discuss.

*Recites lines from Monty Python and the Holy Grail* I'm not dead! I feel happy!
Lemony's work has been compared to the work of the Monty Python comedy team, for all the manic over the topness. So the name of Monty may be a sort of coded tribute, although none of his snakes are called pythons.

I was reading the MPatHG DVD booklet the other week and I thought the line(s) of homour to be VERY similar.

I noticed that. It probably doesn't have any importance, but it is a funny reference. ;D

I could seriously picture Uncle Monty shouting from under the sheet (after they discover he died) "I'm not dead yet!"

Hmm.... I caught that when I was talking about Monty Python with someone a while ago. The conversation went something like this:
Someone (can't remember who): My favourite Monty Python sketch is the cheese one, where the guy comes in and... Me: OH MY GOD! S: What? M: Monty.... like.... Monty... and Python... like... Snake! Dude! S: And so the guy goes "Venezualan Beaver Cheese?" and then.... (etc.)

I can imagine Daniel liking Python, too. I wouldn't be surprised. But where does Josephine come from?

It would be a lot funnier if Monty shouted, "I'm not dead yet! I'm sleeping!"
Or Olaf: "I never wanted to be an arsonist anyway...I always wanted to be...a lumberjack! Leaping from tree to tree..."etc, etc
