I don't think he made them chop wood except for "his own amusement." And I don't think it matters what he used to burn the V.F.D. Headquarters. If they're burnt, they're burnt.

I thought maybe it would have to do with violet's death. In the long word sunny says it anagrams to somethign that ends with CAR TOT AX. AX might have something ot do with violet's death. But I doubt it.
