I don't know if this has been discussed before but I would like to bring attention the the rig-stains on the table. According to the notes, someone who was drinking brandy with no manners had made that stain. The only person that discribes is Olaf. But what about the stain at the Royal Gardens? That stain could have been also caused by Olaf. It was also burned down. According to the timeframe of the first book, the Royal Gardens has to be extreamly close to the mansion. So here I bring a time theory.
The reason the parents rushed the children out is obvious. Now that we know the parents were members of V.F.D. (sort of) Olaf must have called the house and made an emmergency V.F.D. meeting at the mansion which was a safe place. Olaf had to forge his name to somebody on the good side that the parents had not yet met.
When he walked in they greeted him and he sat down and got some Brandy. He then tried to make them go to the bad side but they woulden't so he burned down the house and one parent and Olaf went through the underground tunnel to 667.
Either that or Olaf just could have been dumb and didn't know where that was and ran out of the house.
Now for the disscussion of the Royal Gardens. Olaf either could have taken the Brandy with him and did the same thing to the people at the Royal Garden or he just could have run away and part of the debrie from the mansion could have blown into the gardens causing fire to be set to it.
Olaf may have exchanged sides from time to time with the Brandy bottle causing two stains. In the fire the table was burnt in half and one half stayed in the house the other half could have blown into the gardens causing fire set to it.
When there was examinations on the Royal Gardens, the inspectors and workers could have thought it was part of the benches.
What do you think?
