In the BB they say that when they made breakfast for their parents they burnt the toast and there parents ran all the way down stairs to see what the smell was. Does this mean they were dead before the fire that destroyed the house happend?

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying. How does the fact that the parents ran downstairs to see what breakfast food was burning suggest that they died before the fire took place?

I mean that since they smelled toast burning they probably could smell the fire when it was small

So you're suggesting that they escaped from the fire? But then, when did they die?

But how long before the fire?
And just because they would have known about the fire when it started doesn't mean they would have escaped from it, or died before it.

Then why would Dan put that part in the Book, He is a very smart man and hides clues in everything. Not every single thing he writes is a clue, and keep in mind that he wrote TBB long before he'd thought of the VFD mystery, hence the toast anecdote probably isn't really significant. Because I'm replying to you.

How do u kno he could have, like george lucas made all the star wars stories up long before he made them (including episodes 1 2 3 7 8 9) and u have almost 6000 posts, how ling have u been a member?

This is a good thought, and I see your perspective, hatramroany, but you don't really have any evidence to support your claim. I would just like to add, that I began thinking more about the Baude. parents, and how they passed away. And then I thought, this is sure to be the doings of Olaf. What if he murdered the Baude. parents, set the house on fire, knowing that the orfans would fall into his clutches. Also, what if the Baude. parents feared that Olaf would come for them, so they sent their children to the beach, hoping that they would be able to delay the orfans unfortune. Of course they didn't, but the parents don't know that. Klaus mentioned in TSS that he once discovered the green cigars (which we know are actually VFD signalling devices) in his father's draw, and he wondered why they where there, as his father was not a smoker. So wouldn't these signal VFDers to the sight, when alight by the blaze that destroyed the Buade. mansion? It's a confusing matter, isn't it?

Well I've had a theory that if Beatrice is the mother, she could've escaped but then been killed in the afternoon (since Lemony said she perished one afternoon, but the Baudelaire parents supposedly died in the morning). She could've escaped an disappeared, trying to get back to her family, but the someone came along and killed her...

I thought it was Quigley who said he found the cigarettes in his dad's drawer. Like it actually makes a difference. Well, it should, shouldn't it? He wasn't connected to the Series very much until the Tenth book.
