When I wrote him, I addressed it: Daniel Handler HarperCollins Children's Books 1350 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10019
When he replied, there was no return address on the envelope, but it was postmarked in San Fransisco. He included a business card that said Lemony Snicket, nom de plume, with the same address I posted above.
Good luck!!

Not long at all really. I wrote to him in November and I got his response in the beginning of January. I was really surprised to get a response at all and surprised to get one so quickly. Especially with him having a new baby and all. It also makes me think he must have his mail frowarded to him at home or something. Because I sent my letter to New York and in less than 2 months (during which he was caring for a newborn and was an important religious season, so I am assuming he was probably at home a lot) I got a reply from San Fransisco. OTOH, I wrote to him once before over a year ago and he never responded to that one.

What did he write exactly? Just a 'thank you' note?

Well, he thanked me and went along with the story in my letter. I don't want to post the whole thing though because I appreciate that he sent me a letter and I don't think it's right to post someone's private correspondance on the internet without their permission.
