Hi, I just had an e-mail telling me that L.S. has a new book released today (standard Harper author tracker). Having puzzled over the e-mail for a few seconds, I realised that L.S. has indeed written the introduction. The book is called The Bears' Famous Invasion of Sicily. I wonder if anybody on here has any more information relating to this book, and whether or not this 'Dino Buzzati' would be Daniel Handler? The book sounds a tad odd, and very alike something Mr H. would put a name to. I have no idea! David EDIT: sorry, forgot to put the link in!: [glow=red,2,300] www.harpercollins.com/pc/book_xml.asp?isbn=0060726083[/glow]

The Bears Famous Invasion of Sicily was Daniel Handlers favorite book as a child. Daniel Handler is not Dino Buzzati. He just wrote an introduction to the book.

Any chance one of you people could post the intro? That is, if you have it or have the means to obtain it.

I'm not sure if this is the intro, but it's what Handler and Snicket think of the book: "The Bears’ Famous Invasion of Sicily is one of the noblest books I know. At once a tragic inquiry and a philosophical history, the novel examines ambition, violence, and revenge in the voice of an adult explaining things to children--a voice that is simultaneously wise, wry, and wrong. Little wonder that it is not only my favorite book, but Lemony Snicket’s as well." --Daniel Handler "The Bears’ Famous Invasion of Sicily is one of the noblest books I know. At once a philosophical history and a tragic inquiry, the tale also contains a magic wand, a haunted castle, and a giant sea serpent, which automatically make any story much more interesting. Little wonder that it is not only my favorite book, but Daniel Handler’s as well." --Lemony Snicket

I got the book. Sadly I don't have right here with me so I cannot type the introduction. Which I recall goes something alog these lines"
Introductions in books are like -insert here some weird comparision a la Snicket- because you don't really want to read them before starting the book. so I suggest you to ignore this introduction and continue your reading. Afterwards, you may or may not use the reader's guide that may be hidden at the back of the book(also written by Snicket).
Those are not the exact words, though. also, I haven't read the book yet, so I cannot really comment on it.

I'm sure the book is good, considering that it was the favorite book of a famous author when he was a child. I nearly bought it, but it was the wrong one, meaning it didn't have the intro by Snicket, only the info from both handler and snicket ( that sounds weird because they're the same person, I know) on the back. I am searching for the correct one in bookstores, although I may just give up and buy it of the web.
