Last year, a celebrity playlist was posted on iTunes for Lemony Snicket. If you don't have iTunes, it is available from Apple Computer Company at this link: www.apple.com/itunes The iTunes playlist is filled with miserable songs and he describes why he likes the music. Just go to the music store, click on celebrity playlists, go to the 4th page, and you can find his playlist. All the songs are available to be downloaded for $10.89 cents. You can either download the songs by entering a credit card number or purchase a $15 iTunes pre-paid card. Each song cost .99 cents. The first song on the playlist is Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Marianne Faithful. Snicket says, "This first song is sort of an opening theme for this somewhat Lachrymose playlist. If the entire playlist could be called, 'A Series of Unhappy Songs,' then Ms. Faithful gives us a map." There are some really great songs on his playlist.

1. The Boulevard of Broken Dreams 3:07 Marianne Faithfull 2. One Day Late 3:12 Sam Phillips 3. Calculation Theme 3:31 Metric 4. 4th of July 3:21 Aimee Mann 5. Nobody's Fault but My Own 5:02 Beck 6. Ramon 5:05 Laurie Anderson 7. Sonata No. 9, Op. 68 "Black Mass" 6:29 Vladimir Horowitz 8. String Quartet No. 7 in F Sharp Minor: I. Allegretto - attacca: 3:19 Borodin String Quartet 9. String Quartet No. 7 in F Sharp Minor: II. Lento - attacca: 3:30 Borodin String Quartet 10. String Quartet No. 7 in F Sharp Minor: III. Allegro - Allegretto - Andante - Lento 6:02 Borodin String Quartet 11. Ever Falls the Twilight 3:43 The Gothic Archies
They all seem abysmally despressing. He writes a little something about each piece too, but it wouldn't copy and paste and I don't have time to type it up right now. Perhaps Snicket will next time s/he's on.
