Hardcovered book owners, take of the cover. There's a man and a woman. The man's face is covered. Lemony, right? Then who's the woman? And what's with the slight unibrown your could see? Could it be Olaf and Esme? And why's there some sort of hand-like thing coming out of the envelope? WTF is that? If the man in the pic is Lemony, then there might be a reason why his face his covered--he looks like Olaf with the unibrow. I mean, Olaf fooled people with Jacques, just because of the unibrown and tatoo. Lemony might have both. And who's the woman? K?

I think the man is Lemony. In all the author pictures we see him with a hat, which the man is holding. There's also the umbrella, like LTM said, and there's the suitcase/bag thing at the man's feet. I think the "unibrow" may just be some shadows, but it would explain the mix-up between Lemony and Olaf.
Notice the colors. The background is in sepia tones, and the foreground items are in color. Is this for a reason besides visual? Maybe it was to link the two hands holding the envelope together. The woman's glove is purple, and the man's sleeve is purple as well. If we went on that vein the two in the background could also be linked. But why? If the two in the background are Lemony and a friend/sister/Beatrice, and the two in the foreground are Esme and Olaf (or possibly the two at the schism), then does the picture depict an important plot point?
And finally, does anyone else get the impression that the photo was supposed to have been taken a while ago? Whenever I read the books I get the feeling that the events happened a while ago. On Lemony's site I think it says something about how he has spent eras (which doesn't make sense) researching the Baudelaire case. So this could lead to time(line) events.

Ah, here it is: lemonysnicket.com/author.html Look at the pictures especially. In the last one on the right you can see his umbrella, hat, and bag/suitcase. It just occured to me that the suitcase would make sense, if he had to be on the run a lot.

This is a bit off topic, but could anyone scan the picture on the autobiography for me? I, alas, own the paperback version. By the way, Sometimes A, I loved your examination of the picture. So into detail!

asoue.proboards11.com/index.cgi?board=auto&action=display&thread=1065161554Here we discussed the same thing. I thought the man with the umbrella was Lemony and now Sometimes A has confirmed it (at least for me) Good work! I thought the lady beside him was Beatrice, but I don't know if he'd show her face like that, even if she doesn't have a name to her face. I don't think it would be Esmé because Lemony has never let us see her eyes, so why would he here. It could be K. And the Purple Glove (Very Fancy! And rather In too,) could be the Duchess of Winnipeg. Purple sleeve could be Jacques. Also Lemony's eyebrows are in the shadows, but I don't think he has a unibrow there. Does that forehead really look like Daniel Handler? img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/perpetual_motion/DH.jpg[/img]This is the best picture I could find to compare; the eyebrows are similar. In all of the pictures I have of DH, his hair is always exactly the same, and never slicked back.

The photgrapher of the photo is Howard Huang, and he has a website (Googled him.). I checked it out and found a picture of the cover! So here you are OC. www.howardhuang.com/book.htmlYou'll recognized which square it is. It also lists the client and art director. Of course, the client is Harpercollins. The art director is Alison Donalty. I Googled her as well, but didn't find anything else besides the normal anagrams. Will keep delving though, as any good researcher must. What hand are you talking about JandC? Can you be specific on its location? EDIT: I've found the website of the lady who took the picture on page 185 (LSUA) and various ones of the "author". Er...is it really creepy that I've emailed her asking about them? Oh yeah, website address: www.meredithheuer.com/ She really is good. Check out the ones of food and travel. Lovely.

Whoops. Well, anyway, good job. And thanks for telling me. I knew about HarperCollins though, that's how I knew it was the right Meredith Heuer . Did you notice he didn't have his bio up? I suppose that helped with the mix-up. Bah. I sound pretentious. J, all I see is a purple gloved hand. Is that the one you're talking about?

Yes! I can't see where it starts--the arm is facing the letter and the hand is facing...opposite the letter.
D called M a "she" in his diary. Are there 2 different MH's?

I think it's just someone holding the envelope. Do you have the page number?

I think it is a purple glove, and the back of the hand is facing the camera.

That man is too skinny to be Lemony unless he did all of this years before the publishing but if he had, wouldn't he publish them all at once?
