It seems we have given up on identifying "The Brae Man," the co-star of Beatrice who seems to have caused problems with his jealousy. He doesn't seem to be Olaf, since the possibility of Beatrice marrying O or her co-star are suggested as alternative possibilities.
Taking into account new details from TE, here are two new possibilities.
1) The Brea Man is Ishmael. He's associated with a brae and sheep in TE. He's a V.F.D. agent who has been around for a long time, a contemporary of Beatrice. He's capable of acting, judging from how he fooled the islanders. If you anagram ISHMAEL, you can get "I SHAME L..", a suggestion that he was behind the framing that broke the engagement.
2) The Brea Man is Mr. Poe. He was once better known by his stage name. A brae is a steep hill, which has a slope. If you anagram SLOPE, you get LS and POE.

Well, the anagram clue is a reach, but the rest is reasonable -- we know from TE that Poe has acted and carries documents for the V.F.D.

I like the Ishmael idea.

The SLOPE anagram is indeed a bit of a stretch, but I like the idea that Mr. Poe was the brae-man.

Ahem... don't you overinterpret? The 2nd point seems quite bizarre to me. He's a Lemony Snicket fan, we all overinterpret...
