The Beatrice. Could it be the name of a boat? The Carmelita, The Beatrice? On the poster, with the shipwreck, there is a half a bit of wood saying BEATRICE and half of another saying the rest of it. Could this be the name of a ship in TE?

I'd like to add some analysis here. The "Beatrice" piece does not appear to be from Olaf's boat (on the rocks, with the spatula paddle). It is a different color, and more weathered-looking. It looks like the remains of an older shipwreck.
Could Beatrice actually have died in a shipwreck/boating accident/manatee accident/murder at sea? Does anyone have a direct quotation that proves Beatrice died in a fire? (I know about "nobody could extinguish... your house", but that's her house, not her.)

it's probable, seeing as the cut out letters say that BEATRICE SANK

Well, Gigi, not everyone got it a day earlier than the release date on ebay. Maybe he just got it, and didn't want to read through 14 pages on the official discussion thread. I didn't.

Of if, crazy, Beatrice's house WAS a boat caught fire? It may seem obvious, as Gigi, who deleted all her posts said, but it is a thought provoking point.

Except that none of the wood looks burned, there's no lingering smoke and the remains of the boat are up against rocks. All of that suggests a shipwreck, not a burning boat.
Isn't it just a bit too convenient that the pieces of wood in the pictures that spell out BEATRICE are so perfectly broken that you can clearly read it on each piece?

forgive me if this has been pointed out, but maybe the baudelaires were on the boat because in the poster you see klaus' glasses, violet's ribbon on the barrel. i don't know. it's just a thought. i'm confused.

It seems to be suggested that (a) the Bauds were on The Beatrice boat, or (b) the Bauds land their boat - with Count Olaf - in a place where a boat named The Beatrice had sunk before their arrival.

I would lean more heavily to your (a) theory. Since we see Klaus's glasses and Violet's ribbon floating away. Why would they let those things go if they hadn't been in danger, like sinking?

Well, according to the "1st chapter" on AOL there's a nameplate below the Carmelita nameplate on the boat.

Many boats have nameplates. The first chapter didn't tell us what name was under Carmelita.

The End Spoilers. Highlight to reveal.
But, Gigi, the boat the Baudelaires sailed on was named "The Beatrice". If the letters do indeed spell out "Beatrice Sank", then possibly the Baudelaires went down with it, and they either died or survived and floated somewhere else at sea, until they died or were rescued.

SPOILER
It is indeed the name of Count Olaf's boat, but before he had stuck his name over it. It is underneath "Carmelita", and underneath the sign what is underneath that, called "Count Olaf". It is mentioned right at the end of The End.
What has confused me though, is that you say it is broken? Well, in TBL, it says that Beatrice Baudelaire (Kit's daughter, not the mother) is looking for the Baudelaires, so maybe this is how they got separated?
SPOILER END

The Cut out letters do say Beatrice Sank, but I believe that means the ship called 'Beatrice.' Or it could mean Kit's child. They also anagram to A Brae Snicket
