On page 111 of TUA, when Jacques, disguised as captain sham sends a letter to Sir in an attempt to smuggle him from the country. He leaves marked letters all over the ship. A-H describe the ship and the passangers and the index makes it lead to Prospero. But letter "I" marked on the map, which is overboard (Jacques says enimies will throw you over the bow if they recognize you) leads to Quagmire, Quigley in the index. Yet, according to Quigley's explanation to the Baudeliares in TSS, he never mentions Jacques taking him to the ship or being thrown overboard by enimies disguised as passangers/crew members/segulls. I've always found this mysterious. It hasn't been resolved. Yet.
Discuss.

This post makes no sense at all. The letter wasn't to Sir (the lumber magnate), but to Lemony. And it wasn't from Jacques, it was from the V.F.D. member who captained the Prospero. I don't think the Quigley reference makes sense, either.
IMHO, this is a bogus theory from the aptly named "captainspam", who dumped a bunch of messages all over the place and then apparently deleted his account.

You made a few mistakes. It's easy to confuse Sir with Snicket, but Sir is just a name that people use as a term of respect for their superiors. Also, the captain does have J as his name's beggining, but Jacques is under sixty feet of water at this time.
But the idex mentioning Quigley is quite mysterious. It hasn't been answered yet. For me, anyway. I have only read the first three chapters of The End. I am savioring it, so please, if this is answered, then no spoilers.
Incidentily, RockSunner, what does IMHO mean? Also, you shouldn't judge people based of their names.

It's very hard to explain, but overboard is right over Quigley's name in the index. It is also marked on the blueprint for the Prospero on Page 111.
EDIT: Go to the "O" section of the index. The last one listed is "Overboard" and underneath it, it says, "See also Quagmire, Quigley"

IMHO is "in my humble opinion". I judged captainspam based on his behavior, which I related to his name just as an aside.
Back to the interesting stuff -- Quigley may well have been thrown overboard at one time. I regard his story to the Baudelaires in TSS as heavily edited by him if not entirely false.
