Okay, from the set reports I've read, and from what I've heard from in Danny interviews, it doesn't seem like the ASoUE movie will be that faithful to the books.
And in the past and present, infidelity to a book always seems to offend readers and ultimitaly making them not like the movie.
But is fidelity to ASoUE important to you as a reader?
Personally, it's not too much of a significant thing on whether I like the movie or not. I'll take it in as just an ASoUE movie that's like another non-existant book from the series.

Strict adherence to the books is not that important to me. I want to see the spirit of the books maintained and not dumbed-down for the mainstream, but there will obviously be significant changes. They're condensing three books, however short, into one film after all.
My guess is that anyone walking into this film expecting a word-for-word translation to celluloid is going to hate the film within five minutes...just a prediction. In fact, I'm certain people will write off the film as soon as they see the trailer if the actors don't match their mental images of the characters.

Yeah, good point! It doesn't matter too much to me if the plot is altered and there's a few characters that aren't there or added, as long as they match that gothic/victorian feel the series has. Of course, I will be angry if the Baudelaires and Olaf weren't even the main characters...

I agree.. I had not even read the books before I heard from someone I know that there was a new Jim Carrey movie coming out.. since I love everything he does I was naturally interested, and once I picked up the book to learn more about it, I got hooked! so technically I was a fan of the movie before the book, but more importantly, as long as the spirit of the books is preserved, it should be a great movie for all of us. PLUS, as anyone who has ever read a book knows it's always difficult for hollywood to live up to our own imaginations.

Right... I do want to see the movies, and I plan on enjoying them unless something goes seriously wrong... but I'm still nervous, of course... because, after all, I know they will have to make lots of changes and for all I know they could be huge changes.
Fidelity to the books IS important, BUT I'm not going to freak out if the characters don't look like Brett Helquist's illustrations. As damocles (who gave me a good talking to for being afraid of movies-newbies) said, as long as the spirit is there and they aren't crushed for maintsream audience appeal, I think we should be safe.
Hopefully the movie does bring more people to the books, like it did for you, olaffan... and hopefully it doesn't have so many modifications that it doesn't even ressemble the books, anymore. *crosses fingers and waits eagerly*

thank you.. as many fans as the books have, this movie has the possiblity to do even more for the books, and hopefully the interest in the film will allow them to make even MORE books (and more movies)

As damocles (who gave me a good talking to for being afraid of movies-newbies) I hope there are no hard feelings about that. I certainly wasn't trying to be mean.
