Ok guys, my first ever fanfic. Dupin had told me a while ago to write one, and I got my inspiration. Criticism is welcome, but don't be snotty, it's my first try.
And for those of you who don't know:
AWOL means Absent WithOut Leave.
AWOL: PART ONE
It had been days, even weeks, since one of the most well respected members of a secret organization had been seen. The organization was known as 667 Dark Avenue. That member was Dante Rubens. If asked by another member to describe Dante, they would say something quite similar to this, “Dante is an important member and is pretty sophisticated… and is probably the only member I know of that's dedicated to the sole purpose of this organization.” * Dante was the moderator of the literature section of the organization, containing bloody thirsty n00bs and spammers, in which he dealt with in a spectacular -- if not cruel – manner. One day, one of the prominent members of 667 decided to speak up.
*Actual quote from Jemima. Thanks Jem!*
“Has anyone seen Dante lately?” asked Dupin in a concerned tone. He and two other members had been standing around talking.
“No, actually, I haven’t. I wonder where he ran off to.” came the response from Jem.
“I checked yesterday if he had left a note in the Temporary Departure building about leaving, and I didn’t find anything.” Said SetnicK.
The three stood around conversing back and forth, and eventually, as time went on, the party of three, grew to about a party of thirty. Everyone wanted to put in their own ‘two cents’ about the whole ordeal. As time went on, shouting began, and even some mild violence. Friends were arguing with friends, even e-relatives Kimia and Alice were having some sort of sumo match (see picture) to see who was really right, when suddenly, a voice of reason – or insanity depending on how you look at it – called out to the members of 667 for silence.
“SILENCE!!!” came the booming voice from Philip “PJ” Jucker. “I can’t think with all you imbeciles yelling like this, we need some organized thinking here, not sumo wrestling!” PJ ranted on. He was beginning to get sick of all these people yelling in his ear, and he already had a throbbing headache. “Now, when was the last time anyone saw Dante?”
There was a dead silence. PJ looked around anxiously for a reply, but none came. He looked over at Dupin who was shuffling his feet in a nervous tendency. Next he looked to SetnicK who merely shrugged and searched the crowd for an answer, as the little light that was seen during the day at 667 began to slowly fade. A young girl of 13 was walking back to her dorm, when she was startled by Kimia and Alice, and fell to the ground.
“Here, let me help you up,” said Dupin being the kind Englishman he was, taking her by the hand and helping her to her feet. “Hey, have you seen Dante lately, by any chance?”
She was a bit confused by the out-of-the-blue question, “Well… I saw him in BBooks for a few seconds last week, walking pretty fast, but I haven’t seen him since.” Came the reply from shelly247, one of the BBooks lurkers.
“That doesn’t do us much good,” said PJ, “He could be anywhere by now, that was last week! If he goes inactive for over 10 days, he could lose his moderatorship without a previously stated reason. What could make Dante, one of the most dedicated members, suddenly up and leave?”
Dead silence was around PJ, as the shadows began to grow long.
PJ stood there thinking for a few moments, with a look of deep concentration on his face. Suddenly, he looked at the crowd that had formed around him, and asked one simple question. “Who is the one person that Dante trusts?” PJ asked this already knowing the answer; he was merely testing the others.
“I know,” came the voice of Dupin, “Antenora!”
“That’s right, Antenora.” Replied PJ in a confident tone of voice.
Little did he know that he hadn’t yet figured out the mystery of the sudden disappearance of Dante Rubens. He would eventually… but not yet.
